Vet recommendation in Aberdeenshire

Hi

Jim Dukes in Aboyne is a true horseman so if you are looking for a 5 star I'd probably go for him. Hideously expensive though. Failing that, Bruce Bremner from Donview vets in Inverurie or a couple of the horse vets from Ardene House (Graham and Melvin are supposed to be good).

there are vets in turriff - not sure of the names, also methlick (glenythan - also at ellon) New deer (fairview - also at Oldmeldrum) Donview in Inverurie have a few good vets, Bruce & Charlie are really good
Keith vets - again don't know the right name for the practice but i do know they and ardene are the only JMB reg practices up this way
the aberdeen ones would be a bit too far out for turriff inc dukes i'd think but you could ask and see what they say

Hamish Hunter at Deveron Vets, Turriff will easily vet a horse for you and is more than happy to talk through any concerns you may have. Depends though if the horse being sold is already a client as some practices can be funny about that. Best just to phone and ask.

I was going to say not Jim Dukes... not going to slate on here but just my personal opinion after he vetted a friends horse last year that I dealt with. He'd be very expensive to call out to Turriff anyway I would think as he's based over at Aboyne. Ardene I personally wouldn't have vet a horse for me, again due to personal experiences with them.

Dunnydeer Vets at Insch are good. I've had them vet a few of mine over the years.

Jim (Dukes) saved my old horse's life shortly after I moved up here; (and has since also saved my old ewe (!) by taking juices from one of his own ewe's tummies to get her disgestion working again - above and beyond from him and the ewe)!

While not all the vets at the practice (as with any practice) are of equal experience/skill, Ive nothing but satisfaction in my dealings with Jim himself. My neighbours have used him for donkey's years and are equally happy.

Mind you he does breed polo ponies so maybe his confirmation critique would be biased towards 'any good in a chukka' !
