Thinking of changing vets for a few reasons are there any recommendations out there or equally any to avoid

Pm if more appropriate

Very happy with Agnews but no hospital. There are advantages and disadvantages to this.

Wouldn't touch Wright&Morten if they hadn't already banned me as a client for refusing to pay for x rays that I had told them in writing NOT to take. Other friends have had customer service difficulties, like being told to turn up at 9am to find other customers with the same time given, and then kept waiting for a considerable time for no apparent reason. I recently viewed a well run livery yard who told me they won't allow them on the premises.

Happy with Ashbrooke as a hospital.

Never been to Nantwich, too far, but never heard a bad word about them.

Another vote for Nantwich. They have some very experienced, time served vets. They do their own out of hours visits and prices are very fair.

I’m with Agnews and they are fantastic.

W&M not so much. Lots of reasons but ultimately my mare was forever in and out of there with thousands pounds of treatments thrown at her. My mare went bang with lami as a result of steroids (which they didn’t tell me the risks of, unlike other treatment she’d had) and then I had to ring several times to beg someone to come out and the team were so rude and disinterested. They eventually sent a vet out and the vet said good job I’d pushed as she did have lami and wasn’t right at all :( Switched to Agnews after that. W&M also made a mess of the ethanol treatment they’d done and the were was an issue with how it had fused. (According to new vet)

I've also heard good things about Heath Equine and Wrexham Equine. Aren't both practices connected to former vets from Hampton vets, who have got out of equine since being taken over?

Can confirm that Nantwich do their own OOH work. Really good small horsepital there, too. Also do repro packages etc.

TP raises a good point here . Nantwich really are great at repro .
I dropped a mare off and said I think she’s coming into season . Quick scan , oops she’s due to pop tonight. So I drove down south (6 hour round trip for the semen ) was asked to ring senior vet when I was half a a hour away . This was 11pm . Senior vet meets me at the vets . I helped / watched him do the insemination. Mare subsequently scanned in foal . Now that’s service !!

Yes one of the vets from Hampton left a few years ago and started Wrexham Equine, 3 members of the equine team from Hampton left a couple of years ago when it was taken over and formed Heath Equine. I couldn't be happier with Heath, proper old fashioned vet service, I was able to go out to one of the vets home in an evening to pick up some drugs for our lad which I needed urgently.

Had good experiences with a few vets from Agnews, so primarily use them.

Found both Wright and Morten and Nantwich Vets (but especially W&M) very pro-active, throw everything plus the kitchen sink at the problem, whereas Agnews happy to watch and assess realistically, especially with an older horse.

Also not keen on W&M vet hospital still being totally hands off for owners - drop your horse off in a stable and leave us to it, we will call you in 5 hours with an outcome and (probably) an enormous diagnostics bill - for me, part of a good vet is being able to have a discussion and yes/no diagnostic and treatment option, which I don't see how you can realistically do when they won't let you engage or even watch any of the diagnostic procedures! Almost like they realised they could ban owners during covid and have decided they like it better that way, no thank you.

Personally I have never found that Nantwich Equine insist that I throw everything plus the kitchen sink at any horse ?‍♀️.

My current 3 neds are not insured, and the vets are all very happy to discuss which treatment options are available, how beneficial they would or wouldn't be, and to proceed cautiously if time is needed. I've been talked out of my personal inclination to jump in to do bone scans and MRI scans in the past.

I'm really pleased for you - I wonder if it's vet specific as Im not sure if the vet in question still works there, but I took a horse in for a work up with a budget they told me was perfectly reasonable for what was needed for the specific problem and they promptly spent over twice that without any warning or word!
