Pushing away or tapping on the nose, same thing really.
Obviously a hard punch is too much but I'm sure it wasn't that extreme.

I agree with what you did and is worked for your colt.
I meant a punch, as in an over the top abusive reaction, a tap, push or pinch I think is acceptable, its the same as what the herd would do to a naughty youngster!
