If you got to the yard to find out you had not been phoned by the practice until the vet was at your yard and when you got there they had commenced treatment of your horse.

What would you have done?

If it was ongoing routine treatment I'd be alright about it, for something new I'd want to be present. I'd expect a call afterwards to find out how things were though.

Agree with touchstone. You have had loads of problems with this horse and if it is the new vet that has got to the crux of the matter and has really helped the horse, then I wouldn't go being mean to him. I know its annoying but more the secretaries fault really if he/she didn't contact you in time so you could make the appointment. Just call the secretary and say could they please make sure they contact you in time for future visits.

As others have said, it would depend on the circumstances, but i would ask why they started before i got there, and ask them not to do it again without clearing it with me first

No - your all probably right, it was my fabo vet and all they had done was take his bandage off and started to look at his hoof - i was just a bit taken aback to see him being held by some one else.

Its me being a hyper sensative sole i think - and as hubby just poined out it was prob easier if i was not there as big lad does put it on a little

See thats ok for me as there hadnt been anything more than a dressing removed but i do understand why youre so sensitive about it all considering all youve been through with the big lad, hes improving and thats a good thing helped in the main by you and also by the vet who was there.

I don't think I'd mind if it was a follow up or I had called them/arranged it. If it was an emergency I'd like someone to have called me but would not expect them to wait. Hope he feels better soon!x

If I knew he was coming and couldn't be there I'd have made arrangements for someone else the horse knew to be there and then expect an immediate update.
If it was for an emergency I trust the YO to be there and keep me informed, I'd be on the way - sod work!

The reception had forgotten to call me, the livery yard owner was having her lunch - and yep i am oversensative - the last time someone did something to my horse without me there - he ended up 24 hours later on 3 legs and the whole of the saga began !

i will update the main thread anyway

depend on the situation, but if it my own vet, and he felt my horse needed treatment, so be it. My horse's welfare comes first, money second. :)
