Flick greyhound (aged 11) has awful feet - very long toes and claws for a greyhound, not what is required! She went on her walk on Thursday, jumped out of the car and yelped very slightly (a stumble at the most)....... then halfway round the walk it became clear she had done something to her toe. It almost looked like there was something in the side of the toe, but this area has subsequently become a scab and we suspect that she sliced open the pad and it was literally the inside of the pad spreading out?
She isn't lame but she has a lump on the side of her toe which we suspected was an abscess - I opened it up in warm saline solution on Saturday when the lump seemed to be getting problematical, and the lump bled a lot (as if we had found a vein) but there was no pus
She was loads better after that and the lump reduced in size, so I kept a close eye on it. She was fine until she went on her walk tonight and the lump seemed to increase in size again - again I took the top off it and there was blood dripping out at a slow/steady rate but no pus.
I am going to take her to the vets ASAP but has anyone experienced this? I am a bit flummoxed by blood but no pus in the swelling - she screams when I touch it initially (wouldn't let me poultice it on Saturday) but once it is opened up she will let me touch the lump with no resistance or objection
