Hi everyone, I just had a query about insuring my 24 year old mare for accidents only. I am currently insured with NFU and have just had my policy renewal. I had previously been paying £7.40 per month and they have increased it to £13.04 a month. Whilst still not a huge monthly payment I was suprised with almost a 100% increase on the premium price when I haven't claimed last year. I only insure for accidents now as the only policy I could find that would take her on for illnesses until 25 were petplan but there were so many exclusions it wasn't worth it.
The reason for posting on the forum is I wondered if the new price given by NFU is comparable to what other people are paying for veteran accident only insurance. If I could find anything cheaper (and with a good company) I would change. However another consideration is that NFU will pay up to £3000 per claim. I looked at petplan and they would only pay up to £1000 per claim and I would like to stick with a policy that will pay at least £3000 if necessary.
I just wondered if anyone used any different insurers that they found reasonable in price and what type of comparison it was with my policy. Also are other people finding that their insurance policys are having almost 100% increases on the policy price? NFU have done this to me once before when she was also on the illness policy increasing her premiums from about £13 a month to £25 a month on renewal despite no claims. (although they did say this was due to her age which I suppose is fair enough but with an accident only policy I wouldn't have thought her age would affect the premiums.)
Any feedback would be much appreciated. If I can save a few pounds for a policy that is just as good then I would! Also it's fairly straightforward to change company now shes only insured for accidents.
Thanks very much for any advice!
