HI, My daughter is doing a veteran champs on her pony. He is 17 and very well schooled. Should she do a flying change across the diagonal in her show to show he is still flexible enough to do this or is that being too flash and would it upset the judge. Any advice please .. thanks

Is it a VHS class? If so, flying changes won't count towards the final mark, although there is no reason why she can't do one AS LONG AS she can do them properly!! Botched flying changes, rein backs etc look terrible. Far better to keep the show simple but done 100% well.

The VHS have guidelines on there website as to what is illegal and what is allowed in their shows. It could be worth checking as it's surprising what they don't allow.

If it is allowed however, there is no reason why she couldn't do so in her show. As Maiko said however, if they go wrong it would look awful. Far better to be simple and correct than fancy and incorrect.

If you have a look at the on line rule book for the Veteran Horse Society it has on there what should/shouldn't be included.

No galloping is allowed - and will be severly penalised. Only walk, trot and canter will be marked and all other paces - counter-canter, rein back, flying changes will NOT be counted.

Hope your daughter has a great time!
