Hi, have bought my MOL a 20 YO cobxtb. He is in every night with hay and out in the day. She rarely rides him and I've told her not to give him any hard feed as despite his age he can still be a bugger when ridden (which is why she is not riding him! - I've been riding him on for her but have just given up now as I have my own to ride). He's a good weight. She is still feeding him twice a day a 'good' scoop of leisure mix. Please tell me I'm right! Or do you think older horses need some hard feed? Arrghh!!! ;)

Whatever the age, horses should be fed according to need. If they hold their weight without extra feed, they don't need any. If they are too thin without extra feed they do need it. TBH it doesn't sound as if yours does need it.

Yep! Told her all that! Even recommended fast fibre as he suffers from choke - he did the other day.... and guess who was left walking him out....
