My old chap who is now just 17 has been retired due to spine arthritis, suspensory damage etc etc......but is actually in fine fettle othewise. Living luxury life now, sound but not ridden.
My insurance renewal policy has just arrived, and, predictably has excluded ALL claims including 4 legs and his back. Not suprising, but it now seems cover is only available for accidental injury.
Is there ANY insurance company that offers a Veteran policy to cover accidental injury AND colic?? My boy is not at any more risk of colic than any other horse, ie NO history or past claim at all except for lameness.
I see little point in insuring for accident only (at £300+) and wonder if anyone can point me in the rigth direction as would hate to have to have him PTS if he got colic and I couldnt afford to treat.........Thanks!

I have Lance who is 18 with Petplan who cover for accident and illness, not just accident, which a lot of veteran policies seem to do.

His has no exclusions and covers everything, it is £20 a month inc pulic liability, full vets fees cover, 5k I think, and tack.

Yeah, Petplan will now continue to insure for accident and illness up to 25 if your horse is insured with them before it's 20. They are one of the better, more reliable insurance companies generally, and I have found them to be reasonably priced.

My 16 yr old is insured with KBIS and gets 75% of the vets fees paid for any accident or illness plus 100% for colic surgery until he is 19 yrs old. £150 excess & £3000 per incident unlimited in aggregate.

Have always found them to be excellent.

Both mine are with Petplan now. The oldest who is 16 was on from the start but the younger cob has been with E & L. I had been happy with the latter until they did something to really piss me off and then I switched him too.
I would wholly recommend Petplan though as to be honest I didn't find them much dearer than E & L but their policy especially for veterans I think is a whole lot better.
