Petplan are brilliant for veterans, they are the only company who will cover veterans over the age of 20 for colic and internal problems. other companies will only cover for visable external injuries only.
I have my 4 veterans with petplan, i have unfortunately had to make a colic claim for one of mine (he didnt have surgery but had to spend some time in horspital) and petplan paid up with no quibbles at all
i use kbis for my 15 yr old nf. There are l.imits ir. 75%vets bills paid (up to) £3000 per condition and 100%colic surgery with 120 excess. From what I can remember you can choose different optionsa with regards to excess etc
dont touch e and l- they will find every loophole there is to not pay out. Most vets wont take direct payment from them either due to their reputation.
I had my old mare insured with SCottish Equestrian (also got my baby insured with them too). I've found them great for both. I had a lot of vet stays and visits with my mare last year and I never had a problem with them.
Yeah i think with Petplan as long as you insure your horse before it is 18/19 they will insure for illnesses up to 25 (at a cost though!) I have 2 of my older ones with them as been with them for years and the company I work for unfortunately restrict cover from the age of 16. Think this is a bit out of date now seeing as horses live longer so i am working on them to extend the age limit!
amanda, if your horse is under 20 then ask for cover that includes illness and colic. it costs a little bit more but is brilliant for peace of mind.
I have my connemara with them, he is 18, insured for £2000, with full tack cover, 3rd party, the maximum amount for vets fees and illnesses, disposal costs should the worst happen and personal accident insurance for me! cost me £250 a year.
