Hi, just a question out of curiosity really.....

Does anybody know why most veteran feeds are mixes? surely cubes would be better for the oldies??

The only veteran cubes that I have come across are 16+ and Saracen veteran pencils.

I thought mixes were high in starch and that this would be bad for an older horse?

Can anyone shed some light?

No idea - all our oldies get Mollichaff Veteran which is a chaff with everything they need - they get high fibre cubes and speedibeet - lots of fibre and easy to chew and digest especially if their teeth aren't quite what they were. They are 38, 28 and 22 and they all look great on it.
