Hello.
I am thinking of entering a ridden Veteran showing class at a local Mercian Riding Club event.

I just wanted some more information really:-

what it entails? I know there may be one jump?
What is the dress code?
Does my horse have to have a coloured browband?

thanks! :)

turn your horse out according to his/her type - if a hunter stamp of a horse then chunky plain bridle, if a riding horse type then a coloured browband, if very elegant then as a hack with a fine bridle and flashy coloured browband

I think that goes for your turnout as well but in doubt then a tweed jacket is nearly always correct

^^^^ That basically :) If you have a show hack or show pony your jacket should be navy, anything else and your jacket should be tweed.

I have never heard of jumping even a single fence in a veteran's class. It generally follows the same lines as any other ridden class: walk, trot, canter on each rein as a group then a brief individual show of walk, trot, canter on each rein. Galloping down the long side of the ring, as you would do in a hunter class for example, is usually frowned upon in a veteran's class.

Veterans are not allowed to gallop and you must not wear spurs or any jewellery. I don't know of a veteran class where they have to jump, that is usually a riding club horse/pony class.
If you go to the Veteran Horse Society website the rules are on there. As above answers re: turnout,
Good Luck

If she is not a cob or a hunter then yes go for a coloured browband. As you say she is dainty then consider her a hack or riding horse, both wear coloured browband. If showing a hack you will need a navy jacket but if she is a riding horse then wear tweed. If you are unsure you are probably safer going for tweed jacket and coloured browband.

This is how I used to turn my riding horse veteran out for local level, he did very well.

Black jacket isn't correct but as its local level you can get away with the details if you do your best to turn them out well. Good luck and enjoy yourself
