Hi all,

Not sure whether anyone has done this, but I'm thinking ahead to summer, and what I'll be feeding my oldie. The 3 possibilities I'm looking at are D&H Sixteen Plus Cubes, A&P Veteran Vitality and Baileys No.15 Senior Mix. Has anyone compared these, and if so which one comes out on top? (or are they all pretty much equal?)

My other girl Saf, will probably go back on Bailey's Lo Cal as she looked fab on it last year, but Mist struggles a little with her weight (she's 24 this year) so would like her to have something with a little extra. She'll be doing hacking most weekends, plus schooling, some RC activities, in hand showing etc. Like to keep it simple and not have loads of different feeds (though might get some more linseed as they look lovely and shiny on it).

A couple of things to note, I like Baileys, the lo cal has done them well this summer, but they only do a veteran mix, no cubes, and I'm trying to keep Mist's food soakable to help her old teeth. D&H (Sixteen Plus) feeding recommendations are a bit mental, 800g per 100kg bodyweight so that would mean feeding Mist 2.4kg of it a day (and it'll cost me a fortune!) A&P Veteran Vitality feeding recommendation is more reasonable at 250-800g per day.

Any thoughts on this? Excuse my ramblings lol!

Personally I prefer the Veteran Vitality as it is lower in starch than traditional veteran feeds. I am always particularly wary about feeding starchy feeds to veterans as many older horses may have the beginnings of Cushings without the owners realising it and are therefore more susceptible to laminitis.

I feed veteran vitality all year round and my 22yr old looks great on it :)

Hes also getting the spillers senior fibre as well and a scoop of linseed for his skin/hooves/joints, hoof sup and joint supp :)

Thanks TGM, just slightly confused as I'm sure I saw a reply on here earlier from someone talking about straights, why would they have deleted it?

I think it was deleted by TFC because it mentioned a certain supplement that that poster had been repeatedly advertising which is of course against the T&Cs.
