I booked my horse in for an 11am dental appointment today. I booked it on Monday so no impromptu arrangements. The vet still isn't here. I don't mind lateness if you know they are going to be late but half an hour with no word? Annoying.com!

Yes I know that there could be any number of reasons why they are late but reception is usually good at informing you of the situation. Do they think people have all day to hang about and wait for them?!

10 more mins and I am going to ring and see what the craic is!

Mild rant over!

1/2 an hour is nothing - mine is regularily 2 hrs late but usually as he has had to prioritise an emergency, which is totally understandable......

I fully expect an appointment time to be a best guess. I would never want a vet who prioritised a routine appointment over a colic or injured animal.

A phone call is nice but it's quite possible that the office based staff are dealing with morning surgery.

My vets will not give exact appointment times, and rightly so.

Instead, the receptionists phone you up and give you an hour time slot. The vet usually always arrives within that time.

I usually just clean tack or poo pick while waiting for them!

My vets usually give an approximate idea of when they are coming and then ring when they are on the way. I don't mind them being late if it means someone in an emergency has had prompt treatment.

My vet always texts me if he is going to be late. He has my mobile number and I have his. In fact we (as clients) are often told to ring the vet anytime we want to discuss a problem with our horse. So far its not been chargeable.

Mine is usually late too. From my selfish perspective it's frustrating as I have to fit it with full-time work and it's never easy to manage. But I don't really expect them to be able to give an accurate time. I do try to book an early morning slot, as they are less likely to get waylaid... except monday, when they have to tackle the weekend backlog.

Hope they get to you soon!

I knew the mini rant would work - no sooner had I sent it the vet turned up lol! It's the mental psyche as well as sods law that dictates such things!

Haha, Well done!
I usually find farriers the worst- although have to say my current one is fab, ringing or texting if he's running more than 10 minutes late.

I'm not sure what your vets do but our book slots between a and b.
So between 11 and 12.
Or 11.30 and 12.30.

They only call you to advise lateness if they are going to be really late!
If they are called to an emergency or over half an hour past the expected time.

I know its frustrating, but they do a complicated job.
Traveling, uncooperative horses, other owners who say, while you are here can.you just look at this!

I'm sure they dont like being late, but can't help it.

I do feel for you, but they may be at an emergency in which case if your horse was in an emergency you would want them to stay and do all they could without thinking of others who have appojtments booked. Hope the vet is there soon.

I generally don't mind them being late as I know what other owners are like - can you just do this whilst you are here, could you just have a wee look at so and so. The thread was more of a psychic thing - you speak of it and it magically appears - like your dinner in a restaurant when you nip to the loo!

Just dropped in to pay the bill - £78with a 15% February discount and a pay on the day discount - and they wonder why less and less people get them to do their horses! If I knew the cost beforehand I would have got the beast done 3 weeks ago when the dentist was in at work! Ach well! You live and learn - or, well, you live at any rate!

I don't find the EDTs any cheaper than the vets. I guess it depends upon competition in the area. I paid around that fee last time for my vet and that included a sedation.
