well i just graduated from the RVC and am on 28k, plus generous allowance for CPD, VDS membership paid, but no house and no car. i work a standard 44hour week and often dont get lunch. i am also on call one night a week. i work one friday night and sat morning a month and am on call for a whole weekend once a month. there is no extra pay for being on call, being called out etc etc. my pay is set and will get the same no matter if i spend the weekend in bed or at the surgery - quite a busy practice though so not likely to get weekend in bed! personally i reckon i deserve more than 28k for those hours and all the responsibility that goes with it after slogging my guts out for 5yrs. prospects aren't great either - in 10yrs time i'll probably be on not much more, maybe 35k max. whoever suggested 55k - sorry, but made me laugh out loud - not likely!!!
