How much is a vets call out fee, i am getting a new horse and i am just pricing up all the imprtant things, this is for tetnus and influenza vaccines.
Thanks
Depends. For us, if they're already on an area visit (on set days, for us its Tuesday and Thursday), its £22 (or something like that). The price goes up if its not on set days. Depends how flexible you can be =] xxxx
the vets mine are regestered with we have a free call out day so if you book it for the tuesday when they are in our area that is a free call out then we just pay for vacc which are 32.00 flu +tet but if you call out for casteration or what ever thats 42.00 for call out
zebedee phone round your local vets and get a price! that bit will cost you nothing. charges vary so much according to area, some practices offer zone or area visits FOC for routine things like vaccs and teeth. flu and tet is around 32 and flu only is around 28/29 pounds. tetnus is only required every 2 years unless you are in a high risk area.
if its on one of the set days (mon or thurs) its £46. But on our recent emergency call out on a tues which resulted in the vet rescheduling his day it was £92!!!! I nearly fell off the chair when i opened the bill this morning! & that was only for him to turn up, let alone the cost of the consult, etc. If they werent such amazing vets, i would probably shop around.
Dont know if its different on different days but I ve never been charged more!
Examination (including scanning of ovaries) last time was £25 and blood test £5
When my ponies last got vaccs two of them got flu+tet and the total cost was £70 was shared call out that time so flu+tet was £30.50 each and call out £9.
I would just phone and ask.
PS. since you are new to horses remember its free to ask for advice over the phone so if you have problem thats not an emergency then phone and the vet can give you advice over the phone and if you need drugs you can pick them up and save yourself the examination and call out costs!
PPS. Though if in doubt always get the vet to come out!
My annual jabs for 1 horse cost me £160 this time- I nearly had heart failure, especially as the vet was with me for less than 5 minutes, I didn't even get a full health check for that price!
As has already been said, shop around and try to be as flexible as you can with appointment times.
Ours is £33 normal day or £45 emergency on evening or weekend. Basic consultation about £28, or £2 per minute if longer than 15 mins. Flu/tet is about £30, we can take them to the vets for vacs or consultation though.
The worst call out i had (insurance paid) was £75 (and someone else paid £75) because it was 60 miles from practice. My and another persons horse were at the physios yard and needed a check up before they came home. It was good of the vet as totally out of the area.
call out charge here is about £30. The injection itself is £10, for the vet to record it in the passport is another £10, then you pay another £10 or so for the vet to give the injection. On top of this they charge £1.19 per minute.
I think it varies quite alot. My current vet only charges £25 and most of the time he doesn't bother to put that on my bill
My last vet was £60 but that was a long long time ago.
I like my current vet he is quite happy to pop in and if there is nothing to do and its just me wanting a second opinion he doesn't bother to charge me! I think it helps that we get on very well as he knows I am not going to bother him unless I have to or have a real concern/ worry about something. I am very lucky because he does the job for the love of animals not to make mega bucks.
