There seem tohave been a lot of posts recently having a go at vets so I thought I would give them a positive image for a change. Just had the bill for Murphys flu booster, including visit and health check, and also a lameness trot up as he was a little unsound (due to shoes being taken off we think, phew).
Total amount was £39.64

Mine charges about 50 euros, whatever he comes out for! Vaccinations and passport ID for two, including a trot up for FB was 60 euros I think. He daren't charge us anymore or our friend who sells hay to him says he hasn't got any spare

We've been lucky and found a great vet too!

£38 for flu + tetanus, £34 for microchip (she's new to us

No call out fee as they run a 'free zone' each day, so long as I book for a Friday, there is no call out charge - great eh?

This was under my vets "zone" day. Not free visit but half price and reduced price vacc. You have to book at least 48 hours in advance but not a problem for vaccs. It is supposed to be only routine work like jabs, dentistry etc but they are quite happy to do other things that are non urgent. Its good to now that vets are trying to help when we ae all watching the pennies, although this practice has never been overly pricey compared to some local ones.

Having 'free zone' days should also help the vets fit in more customers. So the customers get a cheaper visit and the vets don't waste time driving around. Hopefully they end up with the same profit. It's win - win

As a vet who does zone days they are much easier as you only have to drive relatively short distances between yards. Also, they are good for clients as you don't tend to get held up so much between calls, so generally less likely to be late! Our zone day visits are free, but payment must be made on the day, and we only do it for preventative healthcare (ie. vaccs, teeth, microchipping) and rechecks of previously seen conditions (eg. removing stitches/staples, dressing changes).
