Vets guide to weight of rider V horse!

Good point pookie. And convincing yourself everybody is being horrid because you're fat is the justification for disregarding the horses welfare.

It wasn't an article in the magazine or on their website but a thread on the Your Horse forum.

I think the comments were one person's (wagonsroll) attempt to justify why she rode her horse(s).

ETA - just re read the thread and the post(s) made by wagonsroll that contained the 'information' from the vet has been deleted!

Ahhh this is why I couldn't find it when I googled it, that sheds a whole different angle on it!

Don't we get enough trolls of our own on here without importing them from other boards too?

Jusst because someone is ignorant about how big they are and their horse it doesn't make them a troll and secondly, I think most people have enjoyed this thread, nobody has bickered or been rude to each other, just general discussions

I ride a 13.3hh traditional cob and am 7'13 at 5ft 4, so although am 4 inches smaller i weigh about three times less!! Surely there must be issues with being over a certain weight, like 23 stone for example, not only for the horses sake but just in certain practicalities like tacking up, getting on, etc. And no i dont think there are that many prejudices in the horse world about morbid obesity, I personally think that this woman is incredible for just getting on with it and riding to the best of her ability, as although the horse is probably a bit small- i use to ride 11hh ponies up until the age of around 15 as i was so small- i dont think she should be accused of being horrid to her horse as obviously, the horse seems to be walking and galloping fine- we really underestimate the power of the horse sometimes... I mean i was told that my father could ride my horse by someone!! swings and roundabouts. ;)
