Hi,

I need to change my vet and I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for any in the Essex area?
I am currently with Clarendon House and have been for 15 years. (I would say what I now think of them but think it would be thought of as defamatory!!!)
I'm sorry if i offend anyone but I also wouldn't touch House and Jackson.
I'm kind of thinking along the lines of Pegasus or Blaircourt, but am interested to hear people's opinions to help me with my decision... Thanks

I use Paton and Lee in Witham, The vet I use is Tony He is fantastic, I agree with your comments of above and thats why I use these guys and they are very realistic on price. They have always come out when I have called them and always call back - something I find hit and miss with vets.

Good luck

David Platt (sorry not sure where he is based) You can find him advertised in Essex Rider. He is a very capable surgeon. I used House and Jackson and they were the only ones to work out why my horse was lame. Also they did emergency surgery there for a horse that had a 50/50 chance and he pulled through and went on to compete despite the odds - so really can not fault them

My friend also uses Paton and Lee and they do always seem good, my yard is in the Ingatestone/ Billericay area though, so I'm not sure if this would be too far away?

Another recommendation for David Platt from Pegasus.

He was wonderful with Fleur, even though she was one of the few horses ever to make him swear - she really did wind him up on a couple of occasions.

I use Chris Blackmore from Park Veterinary Clinic - he will cover the Herts side of Essex. Wonderful vet, and I am lucky that he will still come out to Epping for Cairo who he has looked after for years.

Never heard anything bad about House & Jackson.

I use Blaircourt for routine stuff like vaccinations, pre-purchase vetting and they've been very helpful esp with advice over the phone for a novice owner, I use David Platt for anything else and I go to him direct, thankfully I've only had to use him to do George's teeth, but he did a brilliant job that took him over an hour and George had to be sedated and he only charged £100.

I have called out vets from Paton and Lee, Pegasus and David Platt - all have been very professional and fair on call out charges, questions and diagnosis etc. Also know that people on my yard have used Blaircourt and been happy with them. So if you are thinking of Pegasus/Blaircourt I don't think there is much in it... maybe just find out the call out charges from them and compare.
