Vets in sussex

hi

what vets do you use and how would you rate them?

i've really had enough of mine and thinking of changing but want to know what people think of any in sussex.

Matt/Will/Ed/Paula/Christina have all seen my horses at various times and i completely trust them all and have never had any trouble! Whatever you do i wouldn't touch cliffe with a barge pole!
 
don't think much of her for anything else other than stud. my main problem is gareth closely followed (after today) by colin have always rated colin but he has really upset me today with the way he has dealt with things.

as for gareth, i feel he just doesn't care, i'm so upset by the way me and my horse has been treated. i have always paid all my bills up front and i feel like me and my horses are being treated like scum.

have anyone had any experience of gareth.
 
Bell Equine is fantastic, if we've had anything major wrong our horses have gone up to them and they have been so thorough and really professional. Generally use Cinderhill though and they have also been absolutely fantastic

I too am not an avid fan of Arundel (they were fine....)...can't believe that Matt is still there. Having moved first to the Cuckfield/Haywards Heath direction their call out charges were getting too high, so moved to someone a bit more local

Bell....isn't that up in Kent?

i actually use Seers Croft - its not a specialist equine vet, but is based near Horsham. Rob Reynolds has been the best that I could have asked for, did everything that I needed when Alice went lame etc, and even when I moved Alice to Kent (and then I moved to the States) he has been contactable by e-mail.

Cinder Hill are meant to be very good also.
 
I use cinque ports,although based in kent ,cover e.sussex.Howard Newitt is the best equine vet,he also competes and is an FEI vet which i find helps a lot.
 
I use Cinder Hill Equine clinic and TBH never had a problem and they know when something is out of there league and will refer to the big boys like Bell and Liphook.

I have used Seers Croft and after the vet wondered why my horse kicked him when he tried stitching up a kick wound on a hind leg without any anaesthetic is beyond me. Also I had another horse that punctured it's hock joint and they never flushed the wound and I ended up with a lame horse! In all honesty I was a naive horse owner in those days and didn't know any better
 
I use Cinder Hill - They are fantastic. I have had some major health issues with my horse over the last 18 months (all different) and now are coping with pedal bone rotation (see my own topic on this).

I completely and utterly trust Cinder Hill and would recommend them to anyone.

We use Cliffe as does our whole yard (large RS yard) have never had a problem with them. They have always been brilliant with ours. were a 40 strong yard with every horse done by cliffe. Sally from cliffe is fab
 
I also use Cinder Hill and have been very pleased with them, agree with the above, they are all really nice (I think i have seen all the vets from there now!) and really trust them.
 
I use Priors Farm and would 110% recommend them to anyone.
They are based in Forest Row but travel out to me without a 2nd thought. They are very good at their jobs but also very caring and personal. My vet has been known to call me at 8.30 at night just to see how my horse is.
Used to be with Cliffe but would never use them again.
 
Firstly sorry to hear your are having problems with Arundel - I have always found them nothing but first class and Colin in particular has been fantastic with his treatment of my mare over the last year and has always gone that extra mile to help.

Alternatives that I know of in your area (which is mine too) are Anvil (lots use this at our yard, personally I don't rate them though) and Cliffe (who I don't know anything about, but my instructor in Henfield uses them and is happy)

I do think that Arundel are the best in the area though.
 
I'm a bit alarmed by all the negative comments about Cliffe

We used to use Culverden before we moved yards but new yard is that bit further away now and they use Cliffe (very happily as far as i know). I was thinking about using them myself...but am having second thoughts.

What are peoples reasons for not using them ?
 
My main reason for never touching Cliffe ever ever again is one of their vets left our pony to die resulting from a broken neck

, she said he had mild concussion, to give him his feed and he would be fine. I know he couldn't have been saved, but her treatment of us and him on that day was disgraceful and she should have put him out of his suffering, a huge mistake and i could never trust them again.
I also used to ride a horse for someone who started coming out and being hopping lame for the first 10 mins or so, then being fine, Cliffe had vetted him about 2 months previously and passed him with flying colours! Nearly 2 yrs of investigation by them found nothing conclusive, since then she has changed vets and they are doing a far better job - they've actually figured out what is wrong!!
Then just little things, like one of them said a money we used to have didn't need one of his injections, next vet (from same practise) said he did etc etc!! Sorry i went on a bit!

the reason i'mupset with colin is because he keeps moving the goal post so to speak. i recently brought a mar, unfortunatly after 10 days she went down with strangles. now when he came out to treat her he said as soon as she was better to get 3 nasel swabs done. now monday i rang him and he is now saying to me that he wants her to wait 30 days then start the 3 swabs thats a total of 7 extra weeks to add to the 3 and 1/2 weeks that she has already been in.

so i'm completely fustrated because she is very well and doing her knut in because she is in an isolation box which is really more suited to a 11hh pony not a 15.2hh thoroughbred. i feel that all of this could have been avoided if he had made it clear from the beginning. (just wanted to add he has made this decision without looking at her)

i don't think i would feel so let down by this suitation if i wasn't already having proplems with another vet who won't go the extra mile and actually be bothered to treat my other horse.

sorry to rant.
 
God - sorry to hear about your poor pony. Unfortunately I have heard very similar dreadful stories (from first hand sources) and therefore would also never, ever use Cliffe.

I have used Cinque Ports for years now (Howard or Nick) and find them very good. They certainly come out as far as Eastbourne.
