Just wondering what your vets do regarding insurance claims. Do they allow direct claims or expect you to pay up front and claim it back.

Yes I am with petplan and hopefully it wont come to it but just wondering if it comes to a large claim what the procedure is these days. Thanks.

Mine allow direct claims but exclude a couple of insurance companies. They charge an admin fee for it

What I've found though is not all insurers pay the vets direct and where they send the payment to me, it's easier for me to send the invoices off so I can track what has been claimed and paid.

I am with 2 different vet practices across my 3 horses (not for any dodgy reasons, although I realise it sounds dodgy) and both are happy to process claims for you at no charge and deal with insurance company (I am with Insurance Emporium, never had any issues)

I happened to be taking one of ours for routine health check a couple of years ago, and whilst in waiting room, someone came in to pick up meds, and I just overheard receptionist say about claiming direct. Once the the customer had left, I asked if they deal with the insurance company direct as standard. She told me only PetPlan, and Animal Friends. This surprised me a bit as I believe AF are E&L which in times gone by, most horse people tell you to avoid at all costs?

The veterinary corporate I know well do direct claims with prior notice - they find out info about the insurance/any exclusions then get an internal team to look through the pets history. If all adds up they approve. Obviously if it doesn’t go through the owner is still liable and signs to confirm this.

I've completed direct claims through Pet Plan, Direct Line and Insurance Imporium.

I had to pay a screening fee of £15 while at the big specialist vets for them to contact my insurer to check my cover. The claim was going to be in excess of 8k though so I totally understood.

Our practice routinely does direct claims with Petplan. Others are on a case by case basis and we charge an admin fee. We won't direct claim for E&L/Emporium under any circumstances - we don't have the time or the admin staff to chase after them.
