Hi,

I don't know my new mares worming history, and the vet has suggested she either gets a single dose of equest pramox or a 5 day course of panacur guard. I searched for these on here and found so many bad reviews on them!

Any advice on what to do?

if your mare is fit and healthy then give her the Pramox, I've used it many times as have others I know who get new horses wiht no problems. The problem with forums and the internet in general is people don't tend to put up posts if everything has gone fine and as expected so you can get an unbalanced perception.

I think the 5 day Panacur is better than using Pramox, has the latter is quite strong. Maybe have a worm count done to see if mare has a high burden, then ask them what to worm with. I use Westgate, they are very helpful.

Both are good wormers don't understand your problem.
Panacur has resistance problems in some area but its good and effective if your land has not got resistance .
Pramox is powerful and a goos wormer too
Your vet gave excellent advice IMO.

Your Vet has given good advice, the Pramox also does for tapeworm which you need to cover anyway. Eqvalan Duo is a similar wormer and also one to cover tapeworm. I know many horses which have been wormed with Equest Pramox and not had a problem atall..

Your vet has suggested the only two wormers that do encysted redworm which you can only check for in a post mortem.

I think the advice is good!

If you don't know her history I'd do what my vet recommended... Equest pramox, followed straight away with the five day.... I've used them both to good effect.
