Well Sparky is getting vetted on Friday for the italians. They are using my vet as no others close where available. The vet advised scans as he is 13 and they are paying a substantial amount for him, and then taking him to italy. Now the vet is charging them 600 pounds. This sounds an awful lot to me, even for scans - is this normal??

A normal 5 stage vetting wouldn't include scans, so they are entitled to charge for them on top. If they are bringing a portable scanner then an additional £300 seems a bit hefty, if horse is going to vets then that would be about right because there will be an additional 'hospital' charge. Are you sure it's scans on both legs and feet or scans and xrays?

I meant x-rays

They are coming to do it at the yard, so portable. I realise that the 5 stage doesnt include scans, but i still thought it was a bit hefty

uh - oh I am confused too. They want to check his elgs and feet. I haven;t spoken to vet but the owner to be says they are x-raying everything? unless it is just feet and scanning the rest? (everything and the rest being legs)

I am fairly new and dont know your story. Italians are wanting to buy your horse? Is he a good eventer? Apoligies if you have told people a million times your story on here hehe.

Xrays are quite normal alongside a 5stage vetting for something which isnt on the cheap side

£600 is a bit steep IMHO.... vettings are normally about £250, I cant see Xrays being another £350... presuming they are Xraying feet, fetlocks and hocks?!
