vetting a horse, is this strange?

My friend is getting a horse vetted tomorrow, its a nice TB mare. When she booked the vetting with a local vet (not hers) she asked if the horse could be re shod, which I've never heard a vet ask before. Is this normal? The vendor said no way as the mare was only done 2 weeks ago.
 
Its odd to ask for a horse to be re shod in a vetting - yes! Vets have to peform pressure tests which can easily be done with the shoes on, i have seen a lot of vettings and never have they pulled the shoes off!
Its not odd for the owner to say no - i would have said no too if i was selling, vets are rubbish with shoes, thats why we have farriers!
 
How odd! the only think I can think is if the vet doesn't think the horse has been shod very well or evenly, as this could affect how sound the horse looks. However if they would be using the same farrier to reshoe it what would be the point?! Bizarre! I think I would just ask the vet directly why she wanted it reshod, when it's just been done!
 
QR - Maybe the vet has already seen the horse and knows it needed re-shoeing 2 weeks ago. Has your friend asked the vendor if it has been vetted by anyone else and failed? The vet won't tell you as it is a breach of confidentiality - but could be a huge hint....

I think the vet thinks that if the horse needs shoeing then it won't be 100% sound and it would be a pity to fail it on just the fact it needs shoeing. I reckon she has probably made this mistake before and wants to be extra cautious.
The horse only went up for sale on friday and we were the first to view it.
 
perhaps vet has vetted too many horses that are over due shoeing because vendor is trying to put off doing it so wants it well shod. Having had a horse vetted that failed (lame) when it was due shoeing I can see the point
 
Well she passed with flying colours, not a thing wrong with her!!
So pleased for my friend, we picked her up tonight, she walked straight into the trailer and didn't hear a peep out of her all the way home. Now tucked up in a lovely deep bed with a big haynet.
