Thinking of buying a horse unseen so going to get it vetted prior to purchase. Never had a vetting before, what is the procedure please? How do I find a vet local to the seller?
Do they do it alone or do I need to arrange seller to be there?

Do a google search for equine vets in the area. Ring choosen vet,not sellers own vet if possible. Vet will contact seller to make an appointment to see horse. Seller ( or a handler/rider) will be there to hold horse, trot up, -and ride if its a 5 stage vetting. Vet will let you know when vetting is booked for so you can be present if you want. If you don't/can't, he will ring you after he finished.

You could always ask for recommendations on here or ask if your local vet knows anyone closer to the area the horse is in.

I got my vetting done by an unknown vet by my vet recommending someone closer and then they recommended someone closer still if that makes sense!

I have been to see horses that were lame when I went to see them, and I would have therefore wasted my money in having a vet out to see them - so there is a potential flaw in your plan, if you have not seen the horse yourself BEFORE you arrange for a vetting.

You will need to make sure someone is there to handle/ride the horse for the vet.

Don't use the vets that the owner currently uses, find another good local vet who can be more objective.
Much fairer on the vet and owner :)
