Vetting Advice please......

Ive seen a horse im interested in but heres the dilema.

I lost my boy (aged 12, who ended up with side bone, bone spvins in hocks, wobblers, not to mention sweetitch and head shake) He was a h/w cob and sailed through a 5 stage vetting 2 1/2 years ago.

What im thinking is a 2 stage vetting and poss leg xrays. He's only a £3k happy hacker cob, but really cant go through all the heart ache again with issues that would have prob only been visable by xrays.

What do you all think ?

I think you would be unlucky to go through the same again. However, you should do what you feel is right for you. X rays are tricky. Can show stuff that is not normal , but which may never case a problem and vice versa. I think you would feel reassured by a vetting. Why not have a chat with your vet and see what he says.

Personally I'd have a full stage vetting. Bone spavin and wobblers would show up on a vetting if they were advanced enough at the time of the vetting to show. If you are concerned about wobblers ask the vet to drop in a couple of neurological tests just to make sure (lost my ten year old with late onset wobblers due to fall in field). Granted sweet itch/headshaking wouldn't show up at a vetting (depending on the time of year) - ask the vendor if the horse has ever suffered with this before you book a vetting - its really buyer beware in that situation and a matter of asking the right questions.
 
I've just lost my horse of 10 months due to arthritis. I've found another horse and have had a 5 stage vetting done which lasted over 2 hours. Because of my past history my vet was very thorough, we did discuss having X rays done but both decided against them. I only had a 2 stage done last time, had I had the 5 I most certainly wouldn't have brought him.
