Hi there!
I bought my mare in february following a full 5 stage vetting!
She seams to be sprouting some sarcoids on the indigents her back legs.
1. Help! I have never had anything with sarcoids do I wait or is it better if I get my vet to have a look sooner rather than later?

2. Should/ could this have been detected in her vetting?

Thanks ever so much :)

There may have been no evidence of sarcoids at the vetting.

And yes, it's worth having your vet take a little look sooner rather than later.

As Amymay says. and DEF get them Zapped asap. The quicker you deal with them the better the prognosis. My (then) 2yo had evidence of them on his vetting. I took the chance. He got two lots on the inside of his thigh. I had them Liverpool treated both times and (touch wood) gone and not returned. he had youth on his side and we blasted them big time. I gave Global herbs Sarc-ex alongside treatment - its a bit of a detox. Liverpool treatment is pretty nasty stuff BUT it worked (in my case) and has worked on other for friends horses with similar types of sarcoid. Your vet will advise best route.

Yeah get your vet to have a look sooner rather than later. The longer they are left they can make treating them longer etc.
I just spoke to my vet about a sarcoid on Monday and we are monitoring it for just now, We have pics and the measurements of it. If it gets any bigger treatment will be done asap.
So speak to your vet and see what they have to say about it.

Hi there

Just to say I bought a 8 year old PRE with sarcoids after a 5 stage vetting. Both that vet & my own vet say they are OK for now & just need monitoring. He had 2 on his sheath ( although one has since fallen off!) but do not appear to cause him any problems. He has some tiny ones , almost invisible , on the inside of his legs also - but again are not causing any probs. I was told that unless they are creating any discomfort then they are perfectly manageable & sometimes best left alone.

If any start to get too big etc then we'll be sending details to Liverpool. I also make sure I wipe him with fly repellent wipes around that area to help.
I've also heard some good report on the Global Herbs Sarc-ex already mentioned - so may try that at some stage.

Thank you all for your help, immediately panicked as I never have had anything with them! Vet will be coming out to look at them ASAP!
Thanks everyone :)

Did you get the vet out to check out the sarcoids? What was said.
I had the vet out to my mare on monday so got him to double check the sarcoid while he was there. We have both agreed it has grown slightly in size and its now advisable that it gets removed at some point. So unless it gets dramatically bigger before oct then it will be removed once the flies die down in Winter.

He told me to go to look at the liverpool uni site about sarcoids which I have done and it has been a great help. If you havent already looked at it then it could be good reading for you.

Here is a link to them http://www.liv.ac.uk/sarcoids/facts.htm
