I advertised my daughters little mare on H&H this week as she has been going so well. I had a good response and the first callers came to see her, liked her and had her vetted today. Problem is that she has no hind shoes on. I noted a couple of dayas ago that she was a bit footy on the gravel drive, probably because Alevels are over and daughter has been riding her loads, however couldnt get farrier to visit in time for vetting.

1st trotting up she seemed uncomfortable on left hind, much better when tried on the road outside, no worse on flexion, fine in arena, tracking up etc and on circles and on 2nd trotting and flexion tests. Vw=ets said he felt it was probably do to sore soles and although not lame he would have to report that the movement was not totaly correct/comfortable. So ever the pessemist I am waiting for the thanks but no thanks call. Dilema is, if purchasers do not want her, do I go back through list of other callers, would you consider a horse that had issues during the vetting - every thing else was fine BTW.

She is not an exspensive horse, 2k for a 7yo TB, good paces (normaly), good to load, hack etc etc, not totaly novice ride, just needs a bit of work with her jumping, sol;d with some tack

In hindsight you should have had the mare shod behind before you advertised her, especially as you knew/suspected there was a problem.

Personally, I would want the vet to say the horse was sound. I would think you will get a call saying they want the vet to come again when she is shod/sound. It really depends on how much they liked her.

The buyers didn't comment when the vet was there to say whether they still wanted the mare? (Maybe they weren't there at the time). I would not assume that they will turn her down as she is not expensive and there is a straightforward explanation. Would you offer them the chance to take her on a week's trial and get shoes on and see if she is ok? Otherwise I would go back to your list - a canny buyer would get a real bargain if they trust you as they could take all your info re vetting onboard and save themselves the cost! (Of course we "know" MMB so that makes it easier!). Good luck

You are right, I discussed having hinds on with the farrier last visit, he said she would be ok if is didnt get dry or if she didnt do much road works, I could kick myself now for not just having it done. Unfortunately the add had gone in before she looked footy

No they were not there, so I am just sitting here waiting.

I wouldnt do a loan as she had previously been out on loan and returned in a terrible state, its taken 6 months to get her back into good condition to sell. I would put hinds on, allow any number of trials here and perhaps pay for or go halves on another vetting - grr, I just hate waiting.

If i was buying i would get you to put the shoes on her and see how she was after. tbh alot of people wouldn't have a 2k horse vetted anyway, i sold mine for 4k without vetting. If they decide not to have her i would get shoes on her get her sound and then try and sell her again cos otherwise you'll never get what you want for her

You may be worrying about nothing but in the event the prospective buyers say they will not proceed because she has not passed the vetting, could you get her feet sorted and perhaps offer to pay for a for a further vetting (perhaps a vet could come out just to confirm she is sound) as a gesture of goodwill. Even the offer may put their minds at rest, knowing you are a reliable, honest owner, caught out on this ocassion by your circumstances. I hope all goes well and you find a wonderful home. xxx

Why don't you give them a call and explain things like you have on here, unless you already have, in which case this would be pointless!

You say this is easily rectifiable so tell them and the sale could proceed without much more worry.

They are probably sitting at home thinking you may be trying to pull a fast one when you are not but assuming they don't know you then I would probably think the same, a call from you will probably allay any fears they may have.

People do expect a lot for their money, I do, but for £2000 you expect the horse to be sound.

I do hope things go well for you and you are worrying about nothing.

Sorry if I am talking a load of rubbish, am tired, have been to a funeral and don't know whether I am here or there. xxx
