As I am looking for a new horse do you get reduced premiums for having a vetting?

Are their different rates for having a 2 stage or 5 stage?

I will probably use NFU or SEIB? Do they require vetting?

I can only speak for my experience with NFU. If the horse is valued at £5000 or less, you don't need a vetting certificate. Not sure what the next cut off amount is but for a £7K horse, only a two stage was needed. Give the companies a ring and find out what documentation is needed for the horse you have in mind. It goes without saying though that a vetting is usually a good idea, regardless of insurance. Don't think you get discounts on premiums though - but if the vetting throws up a problem, that may be excluded from insurance

I bought my horse without a vetting - i knew his breeder and first owner so really didnt need one.
E and l refused to insure him without but Petplan did - he was under £4000.

most have a cut off of around £5k

if you tell them you had a vetting even if a lower amount they will want a copy

The horse I got 6yrs ago had to be vetted, 3stage, to be covered by the nfu even though he was under £2000. The pony I got a cople of years before that didn't have to be though. Think for NFU they now all need to be vetted. They did say if he was over £4000 it would have to be a 5 stage vetting.
