I'm going to a 3rd viewing of a horse to buy this Sunday and if all goes well then i'm going to make and offer and get him vetted. Although i have had horses all my life I have never actually bought one myself so this is new and exciting. So my question is what is the difference between 2 and 5 stage vetting? Who would get xrays and bloods done too? Horse isn't expensive but I want him for Show Jumping Fox + level. Thanks :)

How old is horse? How much are you paying for it? Most insurance companies will require a 5* vetting if costing over 3-5k.
A 5* vetting will look at everything, flexion test, trotting on hard and soft surfaces, breathing/heart rate at rest and after exercise, eyes, feet, temperament, costs around £200-300.

Personally Ive always had 5*

He is 7 but low mileage and I would only be insuring for £1k for vets fees so don't need vets certificate for that. Do you know what they cover on a 2 stage vetting? I'm not sure whether it would be better to pay for xrays and 2 stage or no xrays and 5 stage?

I would go for a 5 stage but only x ray if the vet has an area of concern. For example I had a 5 stage vetting everything was fine except the front feet were slightly different shape the vet wasn't sure if it was poor shoeing or a problem with the foot so suggested an x ray.
