Vettings and viewings - etiquette?

From a buyers perspective I always offer a deposit subject to vetting although I don’t expect to get it back unless the horse fails catastrophically, but I wouldn’t expect a seller to hold a horse without one e.g. if someone viewed the horse the next day and offered to buy there and then.

This is in relation to a horse at my yard, not mine - I am just curious.

If there has been a viewing which goes well to the point that the buyer wants to organise a vetting, does the owner then cancel all subsequent viewings even if say they are the next day and well in advance of the vetting? Or do they continue from the perspective that the buyer may still pull out, and that of course the horse may fail (but then may pass another vet at another time). It seems uncomfortable to lose other potential buyers in advance of a vetting but of course this isn't a totally transparent way to operate. A deposit hasn't been taken so there is no security from the first buyer.

What is correct, and what do others actually do?

Personally I would just drop the others a line and pre warn them.

I am also questioning whether a 5 star vetting is important, since my ISH past a vetting for me, then went lame 5 days later. went to rehab zoom forward, got sold past a 5 stage vetting again, then went lame again with new owners. I am serious thinking when I find my horse, to only do a 2 stage vetting, but ask to see all the veterinary history which will tell me more about the horses vet care while in current owners and not hide anything.

Its the first suitable home that puts the cash in my hand, I do not take deposits. I am always very clear there is no contract of sale until I have the money, so I would still allow people to view.
