The girl who loans my lovely Blossy phoned me last night and apparently shes still lame. Brief outline is that she got a month off over christmas and spent it charging around the field with the other mares. Then when it was time to be caught she wouldnt come in and was charging around in the snow - probably not good for her.

Shes never had a days lame in her life, now shes been lame for nearly two weeks (After they finally caught her

) Physio looked at her and said shes torn her shoulder (it was slightly swollen around her elbow). Shes been on bute and box rest with in-hand walking but was still lame yesterday. Vet is at the yard today so loaner is going to get him to look at her.

Just hoping its nothing serious - its not in her foot as farrier checked her last week. Theres no heat anywhere either. There was just this slight swelling around her elbow which has now gone. Ive said to loaner i think shes just torn something which is probably going to take a while to mend.

Arrggh, poor Blossy! Vibes, lots of them.

. If it is the shoulder as you suspect it could take a while to hear, there are collateral ligaments around the elbow that can tear and like any ligament injury they need to remodel and not form scar fibers.
Fingers crossed it will heal up quickly enough.

Thank you everyone

I cant believe shes 17 this year either, she certainly dosent act it!

I think like you said, halfstep, that elbows take a long time to heal so its just a matter of being patient with her. Ive given loaner my magnetic boots to put on her during the day whilst shes stood in so hopefully that will help.

Hi. Indeed its been a very long time since i've been on here. Sadly, in the meantime i lost my girl to a twisted gut just before Christmas. How are yours?

Huge vibes for Blossy
All my fella had was a slight swelling round his stifle and he had pulled a collateral ligament, and had to have 8 weeks box rest, then walking in hand. x

oh no, thats such a shame, im so sorry

Well i still have Blossy but shes on loan to a groom at my yard (still at Hurstbourne). Ive still got Jupi (her foal) hes gorgeous, 19months and 15'3 so hes going to be a big boy! I sold Archie in April last year as decided enough was enough. Hes at a fantastic new home now with a girl who adores him.

Where are you living now? Im sure you were moving away or had moved last time we spoke? x

Thank you - yes i think its one of those injuries that takes a long time to heal.

It was completely out of the blue, she foaled on my birthday last June - had a lovely colt - and was back in foal and doing really well and went from being fine to gone in the blink of an eye. Truly heartbreaking.
Glad to hear it all worked out at Hurstbourne, i still have such lovely memories of my first competition there with my girl.
I'm in Maidstone, Kent but have also split up with my partner so in the process of sorting out house etc and moving on again! It never rains.............

No he's not mine, the agreement was that the lady who had her on loan would keep the first two and then we would reconsider (i was hoping to have her home once she'd had the two)

I would like to but there is absolutely no way. At the minute i have a house in negative equity which needs to be sold but can't at the minute so im having to pay half the mortgage even though im not living there while paying my way somewhere else. It wouldn't have been so bad but my mum and dad moved to france a couple of weeks after Fanta died otherwise i could have moved back with them until i was straightened out again. Bloody parents hey? Who'd have em'!!!!
