I went to bring in mine and friends horse from field last night. Normally the pair of them hear us coming and are waiting by the gate. Last night, only Mac was there. Called Charlie a few times, no response, so off I went in the dark to find him. Found him just standing in the field, head down, with streamers of saliva hanging from his mouth. Phoned up to yard, luckily his owner, Emma, had just arrived. She ran down to field, and between us we got him in. He was very lethargic, and once we got him into the yard, we noticed he also had dried blood coming from one nostril. Called vet and she came out and thoroughly examined him. He was coughing, retching, lots more blood from mouth and nose. She tubed him to see if any blockage, but nothing conclusive. She gave him bute and he calmed down a bit and seemed brighter. We were told to leave him with water only and to go back and check him about 10 and then ring her. We did this, and because he hadn't drunk anything, she came back out and administered fluids. He was to go into vets first thing this morning for further investigation.
Emma has just rung me, and he has a branch wedged in his throat. It has caused some damage which explains the blood. He is now on his way to Potters Bar to remove it. Em is in bits as he is her big baby.
Can he have some vibes please that all goes well. He isn't an old boy, but at 19, he isn't young either.
Have attached a pic, he is on the left.
