Dexter is a 13YO West Highland, owned by my Aunti and Uncle.
For reasons only known to them (grrr if you ask me) they insist upon leaving the dog with my grandmother - who has angina - while they go away here there and everywhere.
Which was fine when Dex was hale, but now as a pedigree at 13, he suffers from the worst skin I have ever seen on a westie (black, scaled, raw - he is under the vet for this) and trembles all the time, is VERY doddery. He's old and my grandmother is only too aware he is going to die pretty soon.
Yesterday we were woken up by frantic calls from my Nan saying he was bleeding and could we come and help her. Driving there, hoping it wasn't his nose, mouth or arse...we eventually arrived to see a very sorry Dexter - with blood clotted all under his tummy and legs - appearing to come from his penis.
Rang the vet, booked him in, took him down. Vet was a little perplexed as there was no real trace of the blood when we got there, but diagnosed a UTI from what we'd described. Said his prostate was enlarged and he had possible tumours on his testicles.
We returned him home and are now awaiting owners to come home.
So vibes for Dex please, he's a sweetie. And possibly time to tell my Auntie and Uncle they cannot drop the dog to my Nan as and when they feel like swanning around places. Not if the stress of the dog dying is possibly going to kill my nan too....
