For those that dont know the history, took J to Poplar park 2 weeks ago for the open HT as a bit of a fun way to end the season. He had 3 stops, and this horse just doesnt stop. One was the water which I can understand, but the other 2 were both left handed combinations.

Wasnt happy about it, and a couple of days later noticed a couple of funny steps when turning left. So farrier came out and found a tight nail, reshod him and he seemed much better but he had had a couple of days boxrest so might have been because of that.

Hacked him in walk for a week but still not happy, tiny bit of heat over the check ligament but still sound.

Trainer came out today as had a lesson booked but asked her to look at him trotted up first to see what she though, he did a couple of funny steps after turning and there was definatly some heat over the check ligament

So going to take him to the AHT to get it scanned as not happy about it at all.

Please can we have all your vibes, really hope I am worrying over nothing, but have a feeling he has done something serious, and my trainer agrees

Lots of vibes for you and J. At least it is the check, and not the tendons, it will heal in time. And if it is any consolation it is at the end of the season (i know, insenstive!)

Oh no! Please try not to panick too much at this stage, he could have just sprained it and it might be a case of a few weeks off and he will be fine.

I dont know if this will help you but our old horse did his check ligament when he was 7. It went out hacking and he was literally hopping on 3 legs, we had to call someone to come and get him in the trailer.
He had a year off in the field, which sounds dramatic but the time flew! After a year he came back into work, and never had a lame day in the next 20 years. When he was PTS he had the cleanest legs the vet had ever seen on a competition horse of his age. Not a mark or bump on them.

Please dont worry to much at this stage and even if it is serious it needn't mean the end of the world. x

Thanks guys

My vet is looking at him tomorrow, just to give me a referal as he agrees from what i described it is better just to get it scanned. Hoping to get him down the the AHT early next week sometime.

Not sure ehat to do with him until then though, would you boxrest him or leave him out durning the day as normal?

I hate this horse when he isnt working!

Having just been through something very similar I hope everything goes ok for you and Jerry.
Jenny was the same - so out of character for her to stop that there had to a reason. Fingers crossed she seems to be on the mend and I hope your lad is soon too.

Took J to my trainers this morning and met my vet there, as thought at least then we could lunge him and get a better idea.

Trotted him up first and he did a few funny steps, but not always on the near fore

Lunged him on the left rein and again he did a few odd steps which I really didnt like. thenn lunged him on the right rein and he wasnt right full stop

So the conclusion is he is lame in both front feet, the heat was almost gone around the check ligament this morning but I just didnt like the way either of his legs felt when i fed him first thing.

My vet agrees that Sue needs to see him, and decide whether it is something fixable or if he is a right off. The fact that it is both legs doesnt give me much hope
