Vibes for little Jessie please

She is doing very well thank you misst. :)

Just a very quick (for me!) post thanking you all very much for all your very welcome vibes for little Jessie I am sure they have helped enormously. For reasons that some may be aware of I am finding the forum a bit heavy going just now, as those who know me will already be aware, button pushing and nasty threats to shut down differing opinions is one of my pet hates on an otherwise enjoyable and open forum. My use of the forum is for fun, sometimes informative and also serious discussion from time to time. Sadly I do not feel I have the freedom any longer to express myself honestly and openly, democracy has walked out the door on here too it would seem, to many Trumpers toadying up to their leader perhaps!😂

I just want to thank so many of you who really are great people and have supported me in many times of great distress and personal sadness, some others not so much. So off on my holidays for a nice long break it is.;) xx
I am happy for both of you. I agree about the forum, I very rarely post on here now. Enjoy your break.

Just a little update on Jessie she is now doing very well and should be off all steroids within the next 10 days. Unfortunately shortly after my last post on here she did suffer two very minor strokes and had to go back to the hospital. It was felt they were possibly caused by the steroids and she is now on a small dose blood thinner until she is completely off the steroids. She will not make old bones sadly, they are going to manage her hip dysplasia conservatively, but she does have some other issues now with her kidneys and liver, she will have regular bloods done from now on to monitor those issues going forward.

So she is home yet again thankfully, not quite the dog she was, can be a little odd and wobbly from time to time, and goes into a trance like state but very briefly and soon perks up again. Absolutely starving 24/7 poor thing (steroids apparently). Her muscles on her head have atrophied and her eyes are a little droopy, she now looks for like a red setter's head rather than a labrador, but this may improve when she is off the steroids. Either way we really don't care what she looks like so long as she is still with us and happy. :) I never realised just what an effect some of these meds have on our pets, but I guess that is one of the prices of keeping them with us as long as we can. Mandatory piccy for Jessie to say hello.😊

Lovely to see you back here, Mrs J, and thank you for your update on Jessie. So pleased that she is still with you and is happy enough after all her health challenges. You and the vets have put so much care into her, here’s hoping that she toddles on cheerfully for a good while longer yet.

I'm pleased she's doing well. I will say, when I got the diagnosis for my dog and knew her time was somewhat limited, it made things easier really. I knew what to look out for and had a plan. Granted it wasn't the plan I'd have wanted, but knowing her time was limited, I'd already come to terms with it long before it happened. It enabled me to really enjoy the time we did have. I hope it's the same for you.

Thank you meleeka and exactly that. We do feel easier if quite sad now. Much better to know what we are dealing with and having all scenarios planned for now we know she won't be around for a long time. We are spoiling her rotten as much as we can but still keeping to the guidelines of her diet and care. She is really quite cheerful now and happy to keep going, so if she is Ok then we are OK. I'm on a short timeframe myself so who am I to deny her as much time and enjoyment as she can possibly have, we shall plod on together and become miracles of both veterinary and medical science for our unexpected longevity. 😂

Thank you all so much for the lovely response it is a real pleasure to be back posting again I have to say.:)

Lovely to see you and Jessie back Mrs J😘
Steroids do have a very negative affect on liver and kidney's, but can repair themselves once off them . I have a digestively challenged cat on a tiny dose every day ,and had to make the decision to him having a shorter happier life on them, or a longer miserable one without. He is blood tested every 5/6 months and so far is fine on his dose. Am hoping I can soon give him them every other day, but I have accepted that he will not live to a great age. I am however very careful with his food, which helps enormously

Another update on Jessie. Unfortunately not too good. We are waiting on blood results that vet is phoning me either this afternoon or tomorrow. It is now certain that she has some sort of brain damage or possibly even a tumour. Vet believes the several days of a vey high temperature could even have had some negative effect or just an accumulation of the many things that she now has going on. We have had a few more strange incidents when she half drops to the floor and either backs away from something invisible to us or even stalks her dinner looking very worried about it. She has also gone into a trance like state and walks backwards for a good few steps until she very quickly seems to snap out of it and carrys on as normal.

Yesterday evening when Mr. J was out in the back yard with her, she was about 12 feet away just standing still staring at him, suddenly she dropped her head still looking at him and started growling, he stood still and just quietly called her name a few times, she moved a few steps forward and then stopped and started growling at him again. He edged forward very slowly whispering to her and she immediately snapped out of 'it' and was her normal self. Very worrying and obviously not good news.

Soooo, vet is inclined that if she shows any more aggression (which is totally out of character for her) that we will need to seriously consider PTS sooner rather than later. At this point all three of us here at home, are prepared to carry on and take the risk in the short term but in any event we shall only be extending her life for as long as she appears happy, eats and drinks and pees and poos. Vet is obviously reluctant to give any time frame but she said she is very sad for us but it is not looking hopeful. She has also been a little sick two or three times recently but is still eating Ok when she isn't frightened and stalking her feed bowl.

Poor little Jessie dog, she has had a shi**y life really until she came to us and now it would seem she has only been allowed three good years and that will be the finish for her. Hurts a little bit more as she was also my late sons favourite, he always found the energy and time to fuss with her and have a cuddle as she is such a gentle and loving little soul. Life is the pits sometimes isn't it?
