After his cut the other day he was looking well yest with minimal swelling / no heat etc. I went down the yard today after leaving him out last night and his leg has ballooned :( He has swelling all the way from his pastern up to above his knee :(:(:( My main concern now is that he has infection in his leg that may work into his tendon sheath :(

So please can the poor dumblood have some BIG HHO vibes to get well please :(

Thanks guys

MrsM Got the vet coming out between 11- 12, I think there could be an infection in there (HOW I do not know as I have scrubbed it and betadined it every day) as he did this last time he had an infection, well it was an abcess in his foot).

Called out a different surgery this time though as last time he did this I got told he had BROKEN his leg :o

:(:( Celulitis is also burning at the forefront of my mind aswell :(:(

Tell mind not to run off with thoughts yet! I know, so much easier said than done...

Infections sometimes just get in, nothing one could have done to stop it, just have to manage it. It's pants though.

Let us know what the vet says. Will be thinking of you both.

Hugs hun.

I very nearly said get him on AB's on your other thread - wish I had now. If it was a kick, or almost regardless of how it happened, it's a lower limb and dirt will have got in. Pretty much impossible to clean sufficiently to prevent some bugs getting in. I have got a vet out and had a shot before trouble strikes on a couple of occasions, through bitter experience. One of ours was prone to enlarged legs and went through a phase where any slight thing precipitated an elephant leg - and oozing serum on one occasion.

Fingers crossed for a speedy return to normal.

How awful. If you've been through this before though then I'm sure you'll get through this fine again. Some horses seem to swell up more readily than others so hopefully its not nearly as bad as it looks.
