Stressy warmblood needs a wolf teeth removed. Now on a normal horse this might not be a problem, but this horse is not normal. The dammed tooth has been there for years and we have discussed with dentist and vet before whether to remove it. Up to now we all chickened out as it wasn't actually bothering her. Since she started doing dressage it has, so now it has to go :eek:

I have inherited this creature due to my daughter loosing interest and my policy of keeping them for life. But we just dont get on, she has always intimidated me and she knows it.

It hates vets, a couple of weeks ago was the first time it actually allowed Charlotte (the vet) to examine it, without having to knock it out first. And due to its hatred of vets, knocking it out is no simple matter. One of the senior partners resorted to jabbing it in its bum over the stable wall a few years ago. They have given it annual injection using 3 metres of tube before.

Our plan for tomorrow is to knock it out with the new oral sedative (Dom something) before the vet arrives. With luck she will then be able to give it some more with a needle. I will let you know how successful this plan was if I live to come on again :D :D

Poor creature is actually lovely (with everyone except me and the vet) so send her some HHO vibes please.

And if you have any to spare can I have some too. Will be awake all night dreading it.

And big thanks to Amy from Hope Pastures charity. I rang her tonight as someone on our yard had donated a rug for the horse I picked up for them next week. She has actually volunteered to come down and help me on her day off :D :D

Good luck, just make sure she is really chilled when u use the domosedan, my fav trick is to put some gloves on and suringe a small amount at a time on to your gloved finger and run it round the gums, then just leave him to chill!

Home you are still in one piece and try to to stress else he will know something is going on

Dom gel is brilliant!! I used it recently for the dentist with my tb. It was so easy to administer - just like worming! And it sedated him for a good 3 hours with no problem! No need for nasty sedative injections ever again!

Thank you, thats a good idea :D :D

No worries about me stressing her out though. She is used to me stressing when I handle her at all. I stress about a rug change or walking her round the yard so she is used to it :o:o

Thanks. I hope thats the case but the vet (she knows the horse well) isn't hopefull that it will be enough.

LOL just had it pointed out that you will all think this horse is neglected and unloved because of the way I talk about her.

Its not true, she is spoilt rotten, I even try to love her. She just doesn't want me to :D

I will admit my tone is quite different when I am talking about my old boy or the little cob. But they love me, dont intimidate me and are happy to give me cuddles. Unlike this one.

She is totally different with my 80 year old uncle who sings to her and calls her his princess.

Unfortunately she just doesn't want to be my pet :(

Hope all goes well for you. Ive no expert advice to offer.

My young mare had hers removed last week, and has recovered very quickly. Sure she will be fine

Thank you, do they bleed a lot and need any aftercare. I haven't thought beyond getting through tomorrow.

Good luck. She might surprise you yet :)

My mare needs hers pulling too. She isn't stressy but everything gets infected on her so I'm not looking forward to it that much either!

she didnt bleed much. I think it depends on how easy they come out. Apparently hers came out nicely. She only needed 2 days off work. By the day after she was eating fine.

LOL she always surprises me, not often in a good way though :D

Good luck with your girl

Thank you, thats good to know, was she allowed out in the field or did she have to stay in for a few days.

Well we survived, tooth gone, horse in field :D :D

The oral gel worked so well that the vet did not have to give her any more.

Cant believe how easy it was :D :D

Granted the oral gel played an important part and worked brilliantly but she was a very good girl indeed and only flinched slightly when they started with the power tools.

She was even good to get the oral gel into her mouth after a bit of fighting. Much better than some horses I know who would have dragged us halfway around the yard!!

LOL, yes Amy she was a good girl, I should give her more credit.

Thanks again for your help and support.

Cant wait to see what effect the clicker training has on the daft beast :D

Oh and thanks to Charlotte the vet if she comes on here. Even though she was not needed she came in case. She is very brave given her long history with this horse. I would have passed her onto another vet ages ago

You're welcome. I think you did very well too considering how worked up you were about that and everything else!

I'm looking forward to starting it, I think she will enjoy it. :)
