I'm probably catastrophising here but I'm very worried about Moti.
Background small JRT x Yorkie or possible Australian Terrier (he looks exactly like all the internet photos). Somewhere between 8 and 9 years old approx. Had him since a few months old. Got him in the UK but as a puppy he was on the streets in Malaga Spain.
All brucella leish tests neg and although terrible conformation usually a healthy boy considering the state of him on arrival. Surgery lt hind for severe malformation and patella problems age 2 successful but obviously developed arthritis in this knee last couple of years which librella manages well.

The last few days he has been intermittently lame lt fore. No swelling no wounds no heat and couldn't find anything - he can't have NSAIDs as they upset his stomach but tolerates paracetamol so having a bit of this. Rested. Seen by my trusted vet on Friday and nothing obvious found on any leg - no pain on examination though he hides things well or goes bonkers at the smallest thing - but we didn't muzzle and he showed no obvious signs of pain. Vet was really thorough and knows him well. Plan was paracetamol over the weekend and Mon Tues rev Wed if no better sooner if worsening.

Yesterday evening he screamed and wouldn't weight bear on that leg. 2 minutes later he was fine. Husband picked him up and he screamed when his lt fore was touched an hour or so later and then really went for our other dog when she came near. At bedtime he sleeps on the bed so he was lifted carefully and had had calpol. He woudn't weight bear again for a few minutes but then was fine. This morning he was lifted off the bed but took himself off downstairs before we could stop him - he was fine. Had breakfast and went to toilet in the garden happily. He then suddenly screamed and was non weight bearing for a minute. He is fine again. He's having paracetamol and obviously not being walked. He's fast asleep next to me now. He'll be seen 1st thing tomorrow by my vet as I'm not keen to go to OOH if we can hang on.

Does this sound like bone cancer? I guess I'm just venting on here - no one will know I know that but last night that was what I was thinking at 3am...

Thanks for reading the ramblings.

Thanks. Vet did say xray if not improving and I know they'll see him immediately. He's fast asleep next to me now. Last night he stayed settled after paracetamol and slept all night
Friday night he was also fine after painkillers but Thursday he was restless all night so I might be overthinking but wondering if he had low level pain for a day or so.
Guess I'll know tomorrow. He won't be having invasive treatment whatever it is.

X-rays - tomorrow.

Hopefully it's nothing, but I'd be as concerned as you.

I suggest he doesn’t have too much breakfast and they may be able to x ray him tomorrow?
Hope it’s nothing.
That's my hope. They've looked after all our family dogs for nearly 20 years and are very thorough. The partners in particular both know our dogs inside out so I'm confident they'll be great tomorrow.
He just rolled onto that leg and squealed 😞 but is eating g pieces of chicken happily now.

Bone cancer would be unlikely in that age and breed though of course not impossible.
Thank you. That's a little bit reassuring. I'm hoping it's "just" arthritis as he has quite "extreme terrier conformation" as described by Fitzpatricks. They corrected the worst leg but but felt it was unethical to do more , as did I. He's done well all things considered.

Could it be a nerve keeps getting "trapped" in his shoulder /spine, hence the sudden squeal and then nothing?
Possibly. That would be good.😊 He's a bit of a tricky sort very reactive at times but good with immediate family and family dogs. It's hard to know what is going on. He's quieter than usual too. I guess I'll know more tomorrow. I'm an overthinker and worrier at the best of times.

I guess if he isn't sleeping as well as he would normally due to intermittent pain, plus pain killers that would make him seem a little quieter than usual.

I am inclined to think and hope it is some sort of nerve impingement too. It would account for not being in constant pain. I really hope you get a better idea tomorrow what is going on and it's something very treatable. 🙏🤞

Thanks for reading the ramblings.

Your description reminds me of one of my first bitches, who as she got old developed a bit extra bone growth, which in about a handful occasions basically pinched the nerves in her spine. Hers was far back in the spine, but I don't know if maybe such a thing can also occur in a leg joint, or perhaps the shoulder joint.

Note, I'm not recommending anyone else to try this, but to be honest, we learnt to straighten out her spine, by gently holding/pulling her tail straight backwards, which made the bone growth get back into a place/position were it didn't pinch her spine. But I'm not sure one could do anything similar with a leg, anyway.

Fingers crossed the veterinarian finds something fixable on Moti {{{{{{Vibes}}}}}}

Fingers crossed for good news today. FILs Cockerpoo presented with similar symptoms and it was nerves in the neck which a mctiminy chiro treated very successfully x

Back from vets. Pain located to upper limb likely elbow (which is quite deformed and always has been) "could be shoulder" but .mostly elbow. No heat or swelling. Discussed possibility of bone cancer "possible but not probable". Xrays 1st thing Wednesday morning as they are very booked up. Pregabalin and calpol and rest. He is difficult to assess so we will know more on Wednesday.
He showed all the receptionists nurses and the postman, who arrived when we were paying, his poorly leg which resulted in lots of treats😍.

Glad to hear that he successfully milked lots of treats out of people in the reception area, by showing them his poorly leg. Hope the medication will help him feel well until the x-rays, and fingers crossed again for that they find something fixable.

UPDATE

He's back from the vet. Both front legs xrayed. . Nothing jumped out at them except his awful terrier conformation so that is good news. For now we will treat as soft tissue injury rest analgesia and lots of cuddles. The xrays are going to be sent to the orthopaedic specialist to be looked at to make sure nothing is missed and I will know in a few days but for now noting too awful - Phew! He is a nightmare dog never straightforward but very loving and so full of character.
Thanks for all the good wishes
