Well I'm waiting for the Vet as she's really hurt herself. I don't know how (can't find skid marks or any evidence of an incident) but what was a sound horse first thing is now hardly weight baring on her NF.

*sobs*

Hugs and calming vibes to you.

My mare set off on a hack sound once, and ended up hopping home (me leading her obviously) on three legs - to the extent I thought I would have to ring hubby for the trailer for the last half mile. Scared me to death, but we think she had just bruised her sole, perhaps stomped on a stone, and she was sound the next day.. Hope its something like that for yours.x

Waiting is the worst thing... once I know I'll feel better. My gut is telling me it's a tendon. Hope I'm wrong.

Thanks for the vibes, Vet should be here soon.

Vibes heading your way! Like honey, Ned was once on 3 legs, I thought it was really serious! He was absolutely fine the next day, must have been a stone, or a bad step xx good luck xx

Vibes to you and your mare, these things are really scary xxx

My sister's boy came in one day refusing to put his off hind on the ground and was sound as a pound 6 weeks later, the vet still doesn't know what he did!

Tendon. :(

It's now hot and swollen so I must have noticed just after she did it. The Vet is very positive as it was caught so early, which is good and she thinks that she's caught herself with the hind hoof. So 6 weeks rest and then the long, slow post tendon injury fittening regime. The Vet is coming back tomorrow and hopefully she will be pleased.

On a side note, the Vet wants me to send my gelding to the stunt yard over the valley for some training with people other than me. It's a brilliant idea, why hadn't I thought of it myself? I feel awful about him going away though. Oh I need to pull myself together.

Horses. :(

sending vibes, hope shes ok. xx

Oh no :( Sending healing vibes to her and supportive vibes to you. xxxxxx

Just one thing though - I actually saw my old pony do his tendon. I went to fetch him from a far distant part of the field and he was sound as he started walking towards me but then something kicked off with the other horses and they all went hell for leather towards the gate and he went with them. By the time I got to the gate he was on 3 legs but with no swelling. I hosed and bandaged straight away. There was no swelling for about 5 days during which time we wondered if it was a tendon or an abscess as the leg itself looked totally normal, just a bit of heat. Eventually it did swell. I'm not sure if it was the instant hosing and bandaging that stopped it swelling or if it just didn't do it because of the nature of it (trashed SDFT).

OK, it's not great news that it's a tendon, but at least you know what it is - you caught it early and you now have a plan of action with your vet . . . sending get well vibes.
