Nightmare day - arrived up to yard , took my mare out of box & there was extremely bad swelling very high up in the inside of her off hind leg with less severe swelling down rest of leg & in hoof:( She was very sore & lame..

Vet called out & it may be Lymphangitis.... she had it last year aswell but no way as severe... She is not allowed near grass for couple of days & turnout is going to have to be restricted for 2-3 weeks... thankfully we have an indoor arena she can be turned out in.

Meds given & thats when things went a bit manic... walked her out in hand , she couldnt understand why she wasnt allowed any grass but she is only allowed bran mash for next two days - felt awful as she is always allowed a pick of grass when out.. So she just plodded along with head down making me feel awful:(

Back into stable & half an hr later went to check on her & got massive fright - she was having a delayed reaction to meds given & spasming all over & trying to go down in stable...
After 40 mins lunging we got the spasming under control & it stopped... walked her in hand for a further while just to make sure.
She wasn't interested in the bran mash & just took couple of mouthfulls of haylage ( mare is food obsessed so really not like her ) Never seen her as quiet since I have owned her:(
Hung around for a couple of hours to keep checking her & she seemed slightly brighter but still no interest in eating...
YO was going to keep an eye after I left & my OH is spinning by when finished work at 11.30 ...

Positive vibes please - feeling awful for her:(

((((( healing vibes sent to your mare )))))

Thank you all:( She means the world to me & is literally like my third child... Tried to get a Babysitter so could spend night at yard but couldnt get one at such short notice:(

Thank you... I will be up @ the crack of dawn to go check on her am just so worried & dont think I will get a wink of sleep. Non horsey OH is going up to check on her after he is finished work with a clear set of instructions to ring me and talk me through how she is....
Sending vibes for your mare and hugs for you. Please keep us updated with how she is in the morning x

Sending vibes to your mare, hope you see an improvement in the morning and that you get a few hours sleep.

Thinking of you both, Tash x

Bless you sounds really scarey, I'm sure she will be fine just an initial reaction, probably snoozing whilst you're panicking

Update!!! Well she was a touch brighter this morning and was munching her haulage:) very stiff still behind and sore.. Turned her out in indoor for a couple of hours but all she wanted to do was stand in the corner looking depressed... Took her out in hand for an hour and she perked up.. Definitely happier... Swelling in lower leg has gone down Heep's but swelling up high is unchanged and its obvious she is uncomfortable ... Stayed at yard for 7 hrs with her and think she enjoyed all the fuss... I've to ring vet in the morning and see where we go from there.
