Vibes for poor old Bertie donkey please.

Mrs J - I'd also second paracetomol, alongside bute. It made all the difference when my old girl had laminitis.
Thank you, yes I meant to reply to the previous poster who suggested the same.

I have used both for one of the little rescues that came to us in the throes of a full blown lammi attack a few years back. It worked very well as I recall.

We did discuss with John (my vet) yesterday but he feels happier to have him on the one Bute every eight hours for the next few days, then reassess and hopefully lower the Bute but include paracetamol if he feels it would be helpful.

Thank you for the helpful suggestion though. 👌

I remember my vet telling me that donkeys metabolise bute faster than horses, which no doubt is why your vet is recommending dosing 3 times a day . I hope Bertie is more comfortable soon . Sending vibes to him and Jess .
Yes they do, they metabolise it in about six hours. Hence the decision to temporarily increase to one every eight hours without risk of over dosing him.

It seemed my use of a certain abbreviation might have offended some. OK apologies if anything I said offended people but I deliberately did NOT use a particular word but a very inoffensive and diminutive use of a well known abbreviated term to express my feelings. I regret any offence and I will not use that term again, but I do not regret that I expressed my feelings. Thank you and a million thanks again for the support, much appreciated. I will not be continuing to post about Bertie and Jess but I have been very grateful for the supportive input, it actually does help when H&H is on its very best form when things go a bit pear shaped, as I am sure many of us know.

I dont think it was your posts that people were reporting.
More likely a poster that was being rude to you and other posters.

I can only speak for myself (I did not report, but was itching to) but is was not your post that offended me. It was the posts of the clearly angry person who did not resort to an abbreviation but used the full word. It wasn't so much the vulgar language which offended me (I've read worse) it was the content of the posts that were mean, bordering on cruel, to you and other posters that politely pointed out that this behaviour was uncalled for.
I for one am invested in Bertie and Jess's health and would really appreciate it if you could keep us updated.
I would like to unilaterally declare this thread a "Thumper thread": If you can't say something nice (or useful), don't say anything at all.

Everything crossed for Bertie and Jess. Sounds like Bertie has started to pick up, so hope that progress continues, and he's fighting fit for Christmas x

Sending updated vibes today.

I completely missed what happened but I'm very sorry that the thread got dragged in to nastiness. Please do keep posting about them both and keep us updated.

It's of course your decision, but I've been refreshing the page hoping for a Bertie, and Jess, update this morning. For what it's worth, I thought you expressed yourself relatively controlled under the circumstances. I think Admin just decided to use their biggest cleansing broom, since they've also removed e.g. my own reply which I tried to write as sympathetic as I could, I had even edited the post I quoted to not offend anyone, and @misst 's post from this morning which mainly just said some nice things about you, and me.

{{{{{{Vibes}}}}}} to Bertie, and Jess, and {{{{{{Hugs}}}}}} to you.

So very sorry to hear of your situation. It isn't ever easy when you've got furry oldies, and ohh sooh often sad things can come along one after the other; I had a horrible time just a few years ago now where I lost my precious 10yo mare and my little furry dog, within a week of each other. So I feel for you in your situation, especially just before Christmas.

Sending hugs.

Am late to the thread but sending best wishes to you and Bertie and Jess.
It’s so hard when they are old and/ or unwell.

It was so lovey to read about Bertie holding onto son’s sleeve on yesterday’s update. I hope so much both are still improving today.

I missed the offensive posts but have no idea how anyone could’ve come up with something that ended up needing fatty’s intervention on this thread. The mind boggles. Sorry you had to deal with that Mrs J.

Thats a good idea Red-1 and if it doesn't stay dry for long enough for the top paddock to drain a bit so I can walk down there I might suggest that. Thanks for the useful suggestion. Having said that, I trust son 100 per cent to run anything and everything by me without hiding the bad bits from me. He has been their main physical and practical carer for the past 18 months or so, and around equines most of his life and also owned his own in the past, so he has enough knowledge to notice any small warning signs that might mean we need the vet back ASAP or to alter any aspects of what we are doing. Hopefully it won't come to that though.
I am dreadful if I'm away. I ask for vids and facetimes, even though I know they are well cared for. I like to be updated.

I am sorry there was nastiness on the thread, I have no idea how that could happen on a thread where someone is doing their darndest for an obviously well loved pet.

Please do not take one individual's cruel responses as to how we feel, as you say the HHO forum is a great place of support & knowledge unfortunately the minority can ruin that atmosphere.
Healing thoughts are with you and your fluffy family x

@Mrs. Glittery Jingle Balls Your post was in no way offensive and the responses by that one poster to both you and @FinnishLapphund were downright rude and unnecessary. I ummed and ahhed for quite a while before I too, for the very first time in my life pressed the button. I felt quite naughty doing it but I was so incensed on your behalf I just had to.
I do hope you continue to post about Bertie and Jess, we are all interested in their progress and I have learnt something from them too. (About the donkeys metabolism) We are all wishing them well and sending vibes for their recovery.
