The 3 bute is a temporary measure under vet supervision for an acute illness. Not an ongoing situation. Mrs J has in the past, and will, in the future make the call for her donkey regardless of her own distress.
Thank you, yes I meant to reply to the previous poster who suggested the same.Mrs J - I'd also second paracetomol, alongside bute. It made all the difference when my old girl had laminitis.
Yes they do, they metabolise it in about six hours. Hence the decision to temporarily increase to one every eight hours without risk of over dosing him.I remember my vet telling me that donkeys metabolise bute faster than horses, which no doubt is why your vet is recommending dosing 3 times a day . I hope Bertie is more comfortable soon . Sending vibes to him and Jess .
First time I’ve reported a post !I am pleased that the nasty posts have been removed. It is not often that I report any.
I hope that Bertie is well on the recovery road this morning.
I dont think it was your posts that people were reporting. It seemed my use of a certain abbreviation might have offended some. OK apologies if anything I said offended people but I deliberately did NOT use a particular word but a very inoffensive and diminutive use of a well known abbreviated term to express my feelings. I regret any offence and I will not use that term again, but I do not regret that I expressed my feelings. Thank you and a million thanks again for the support, much appreciated. I will not be continuing to post about Bertie and Jess but I have been very grateful for the supportive input, it actually does help when H&H is on its very best form when things go a bit pear shaped, as I am sure many of us know.
I can only speak for myself (I did not report, but was itching to) but is was not your post that offended me. It was the posts of the clearly angry person who did not resort to an abbreviation but used the full word. It wasn't so much the vulgar language which offended me (I've read worse) it was the content of the posts that were mean, bordering on cruel, to you and other posters that politely pointed out that this behaviour was uncalled for.It seemed my use of a certain abbreviation might have offended some. I am dreadful if I'm away. I ask for vids and facetimes, even though I know they are well cared for. I like to be updated.Thats a good idea Red-1 and if it doesn't stay dry for long enough for the top paddock to drain a bit so I can walk down there I might suggest that. Thanks for the useful suggestion. Having said that, I trust son 100 per cent to run anything and everything by me without hiding the bad bits from me. He has been their main physical and practical carer for the past 18 months or so, and around equines most of his life and also owned his own in the past, so he has enough knowledge to notice any small warning signs that might mean we need the vet back ASAP or to alter any aspects of what we are doing. Hopefully it won't come to that though.
