My old girl Saffy is at the vets with a pyo.:( She wasn't quite right this morning, off her food and breathing a bit fast. Bloods showed slight rise in white cells but nothing too alarming, no tenderness on palpating belly etc and no discharge. She had vit and anti b jabs and took her home to monitor. Seemed brighter later on this afternoon but on checking found some discharge, so back for scan and worst fears confirmed. Uterus not huge but definitely something there. Realistically at her age I should maybe have pts but as I said on here only a few days ago (tempting fate) she is not like a 12 year old at all, so the plan is she is staying at vets for fluids tonight and as long as they are happy with her she will be operated on in the morning. I have said if they find anything else nasty when they open her up to let her go on the table.:(
I really do not know why I have never had her spayed, she is one of the few of my bitches I haven't had done as they got older, needless to say I bitterly regret it now.

Wishing you all the best B - our great old girl was 11 when she had a pyo, (not to mention the two swallowed pairs of tights!!!) and she bounced right back and lived to 14, fingers crossed for a similar outcome xxx

Oh no, huge huge vibes for Saffy, we will keep all our fingers and paws crossed :( Islay, Flick and Amy send long-distance get-well kisses too :( xx

I'm so sorry to hear your girl is poorly, but can I ask what a PYO is please.

I have a bitch, first one as I've always had dogs before but she desperately needed rescuing so I agreed for OH to bring her home. Our Lab had been castrated so I never saw the need to have her spayed and her previous owner hadn't.

I so hope your girl is soon back home with you.

JDx

Thank you so much for all your thoughts. Good to hear of other oldies who have come through the op so well. Vet has promised to call if any change, so no news is good news, and she will let me know as soon as she is out of the op, so will update asap. I am being positive and have washed 2 vet beds for her return home.

Good news x
Hope you don't mind me posting this, but I hope it is an inspirational pic - D on the right, aged three, and her on the left, aged approx 12/13, post pyo op and fighting fit - come on Saff, you can do it too!
