Just off of Skype with Mum and I'm a bit worried about my boy. We've owned our horse Harley for the last 8 years. He's been such a huge part of our lives and such a huge confidence boost to us both. I'm in another country away at uni for most of the year which means that he's solely Mum's horse then and I have to make-do with getting updates every week. Turns out last week he was a bit "off" so she gave him a day off and the next day he was still a bit "off" so she talked to our trainer/barn manager who agreed that something was funny and since the vet happened to be there, she'd take a look. Vet noticed some oedema in his front feet and hocks and assumed he needed to be injected (we need to inject his hocks and feet a few times a year) so she proceeded to do that. Next day, Mum gets a phone call from our trainer saying that he's not colicking (thank god, as he had to have surgery for an impaction about 6 years ago) but that he's spent the whole day laying down in his stall. Since she hasn't dealt with this before, she rang the vet who decided to come out. Turns out he had the beginnings of laminitis! Mum went down and spent the night icing each of his feet in turn. Apparently he was a right gentleman and stood stone still with his foot in the bucket of ice. She says he's doing a bit better today. Just need some HHO vibes for him! Hoping that they treated it early enough and that he'll be okay!

Tea and biccies for everyone!

Chin up , think positive , i'm sure with the speedy treatment your mum and vet have given the only way now is up. Lami is a bit of a long term problem and whatever the cause , be it too much sugar in the system or concussion lami , it's still a long term recovery . At least your vet can get some pain killers and anti inflamitories in , he may need some frog supports if you have to continue to keep hin out in his liitle paddock , your farrier should be able to help with these , hopefully this will help prevent the pedal bone from rotating .

Big vibes to you , your mum and harley hope everything goes better for you than for my little dartmoor mare whom i had to have pts.

Oh no! Huge vibes for you all :(
I know the feeling, I live away at uni and get weekly updates on my share mare who has been very poorly over the last 18 months with severe lami (from what we now know is Cushings related), pedal bone rotation and then stress seizures and the diagnosis of the worst form of Cushings at Christmas. Fingers crossed things are seeming to be on the up now.
Lami used to be a bit of a rare occurrance compared to nowadays...they seem to get it just from looking at grass or hard ground! At her worst, our girl was leant against her stable door, shifting weight from foot to foot, unable to walk even a step and looking so miserable and I never want to have to go through that again.
Sounds like you have caught it early and are doing the right things so fingers crossed your boy is okay again soon!!
