Just off of Skype with Mum and I'm a bit worried about my boy. We've owned our horse Harley for the last 8 years. He's been such a huge part of our lives and such a huge confidence boost to us both. I'm in another country away at uni for most of the year which means that he's solely Mum's horse then and I have to make-do with getting updates every week. Turns out last week he was a bit "off" so she gave him a day off and the next day he was still a bit "off" so she talked to our trainer/barn manager who agreed that something was funny and since the vet happened to be there, she'd take a look. Vet noticed some oedema in his front feet and hocks and assumed he needed to be injected (we need to inject his hocks and feet a few times a year) so she proceeded to do that. Next day, Mum gets a phone call from our trainer saying that he's not colicking (thank god, as he had to have surgery for an impaction about 6 years ago) but that he's spent the whole day laying down in his stall. Since she hasn't dealt with this before, she rang the vet who decided to come out. Turns out he had the beginnings of laminitis! Mum went down and spent the night icing each of his feet in turn. Apparently he was a right gentleman and stood stone still with his foot in the bucket of ice. She says he's doing a bit better today. Just need some HHO vibes for him! Hoping that they treated it early enough and that he'll be okay!
