Ok, I am feeling pretty terrible at the moment. It's my daughters birthday and this morning I had to shoot her pony. He was a lovely old boy, pretty palomino welsh type who was terrific with the kids, took them hacking and over their first jumps. Sadly this morning he was colicking badly, and I really do mean badly, either rolling or trotting to get away from it so pts seemed the only option bearing his age in mind.
I now feel like an absolute cow. Can you see it, 'Did you have a good day at school? Here blow out your candles and make a wish, better ask for a new pony I've just shot yours'
Seriously I'm not that callous and will hopefully be able to make enough excuses so we can break it at the weekend instead, but honestly what an awful day!! I really need some vibes though, I adored the old boy and keeping a smiley face going is going to be tough. And the Oscar goes to......
Sorry I'm rambling, think its the shock!!

So sorry for your loss, My dad died a few days before my daughters birthday, I was dreading telling her as she adored him and was her world. She was devastated but I was surprised at how quickly she excepted it and bounced back. Children are very good at looking forward. Hugs to you and your family x

Thanks guys, it's been a difficult evening keeping the happy going. She has been through a lot recently as we lost our old dog who she used to curl up and sleep with when she was little at the new year too. I'm dreading having to tell her, I'm not even sure how to?

sorry to read of your loss poor lad, how old is your daughter? just be honest with her about what happened. You can grieve together maybe plant a tree or shrub in his memory.
