This is going to be long guys sorry in advance

So my mare was diagnoses with Pemphigus which is an autoimmune disorder which affects the skin. Basically her own immune system is attacking her skin making her really really itchy. This has been successfully under control since the beginning of may.
Unfortunately due to her being so itchy she lost a lot of weight as she was itching rather than eating. Whilst her skin improved her weight continued to call and last week she was admitted to Rossdales in Newmarket to get to the bottom of her weight loss.
She was diagnosed with arthritis in a joint under her tongue at the back of her mouth which will in time require surgery in order for it to stop hurting and prevent her from having further problems. She was discharged on Thursday morning.

Since then she has been started on bute to try and reduce the pain to get her to eat but so far we have failed to get anything into her other than grass which she now can't have because her pemphigus has been flared up by it.

Really am stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea atm. Going round and around in circles and no progressing anywhere.

In addition we are almost out of money for the pemphigus the weight loss would be a separate claim. But I really don't know how much more to put her through. Equally I don't wanna give us to soon

So sorry to hear this.
You know the horse best, so you are the best one to make the decision but you need to talk to the vets about the prognosis in order to make an informed decision.

As for the eating, look at things like Fiber nuts and soak them sugar bee etc ,make any feed sloppy so she will drink it rather than eating it.

Have you looked at herbs etc for the skin.
