I think so, it’s quite hard to say but he is getting round. I’ve just had a lovely ott welcome home and we are sharing toast on the sofa... may give the horse another day off and just play with him, snow forecast tomorrow and he’s only been ridden once this week so it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

I’ve popped an advert on a local fb page and had a few rug donations to go collect tomorrow. I figured it’s irrelevant what they look like for now but I can at least make tracks around the place.
He’s doing well. This afternoon he made it across the yard, very ungracefully but unaided to have a sit in the lorry. It’s his favourite place weirdly.
So I’m thinking the pain killers are helping ?‍♀️ We go back at the end of next week to the vets to discuss.
I’m happier today.

My labs last year was spent managing usual old age aches and pains plus non specific neuro symptoms.

I don’t believe these types of situation are a ‘no pain’. Of course there is pain, and you have to experiment with drugs to find the right cocktail for the individual dog, to justify keeping them going.

For mine that was Previcox, paracetamol and gabapentin. It might be different for yours but I would be inclined to ask about gabapentin with your vet. Other dogs get real help from tramadol (mine didn’t, just side effects).

@ihatework its gabapentin they have prescribed. Apparently it works well on any kind of neuro type pain, however I also hear that a side effect is hind end weakness which is the absolute last thing he needs.
@Stiff Knees thanks, it’s still very much going on and he still needs every bit of help we can get!

So my house is a patch work of mismatched very kindly donated rugs donated and they definitely help.

I’m still playing it all by ear, I’m not sure I’m comfortable with keeping him on painkillers. I took him on years ago promising that if he couldn’t cope happily without drugs that was my line. It’s ok to cross it while he’s “recovering” from something but I’m not really sure about him being maintained on pain killers

The rugs will be fine as long as they don’t slip. We had to carpet the kitchen when Jake had his cruciate ops, crappy thin industrial stuff, a huge piece, 20x10. It was a massive help.
Yes I’ve got a few brilliant big heavy ones which are perfect and then some smaller, the type you can pop in a washing machine that are a bit less helpful but strategically placed it’s working out.
He’s been playing today!
