A friend/fellow livery and all-round lovely person is having her beautiful horse PTS this week (possibly as early as tomorrow - making all the arrangements right now). This horse has been a much-loved member of their whole family for such a long time now . . . he belonged to her sister first who evented him and then passed him on to J who has done all sorts with him . . . hunting, team chasing, dressage, ODEs, fun rides. He's always been a bit special . . . once belonged to (and competed by) an international event rider, is full of personality and is a rather, ahem, sensitive soul. J and her family have nursed him through all sorts of ailments and injuries. It certainly is his time to go now, but I know how very hard this decision is for J. She has other issues on her plate too, which I won't go into here, but let's just say that this is a decision she could do without having to make - but one that her lovely family will support her through.

Not sure what sort of vibes I'm asking for . . . I'm very fond of J and her family - and of her lovely horse . . . perhaps just that folks think of her boy and wish him God speed over the "bridge." . . . ?

Sending heartfelt vibes for all concerned at such a difficult and sad time. Horses leave such a big space to fill in every sense of the words.xx

Thanks both - yes, it is heartbreaking - as is the loss of every much-loved horse. The owner is the sister of Kal's jockey . . . I've become very fond of the whole family (and their horses) and really don't know what to do for them. I have asked a local photographer (who is also a livery) if he can look out some pics of J and her boy so that I can choose one and buy it for her. Just don't know what else to do.

It's always so bittersweet when a much-loved, older horse goes . . . a blessed release because he won't be in pain any more, and the shattering heartbreak for the owners.

In any event, thank you for your kind thoughts.

Thanks all . . . much appreciated. I hate not being able to do something practical. The yard will be a very strange/sober place tomorrow :(.
