This is my lovely big boy a couple of weeks ago. He went off to rehab today with Donna Blinman for his SI problems. He has spent the winter loosening up and letting down. He has had his shoes off for a few months and although he has lost weight as well as muscle he is a very happy boy.

Lets hope he comes right and we can go cantering across the fields together soon.
 
He settled in really well on Monday morning - didnt go far from the gate since there was good grass and didnt seem at all stressed by the trip or being in a new place. The months turned away have helped him become less anxious. I had a text on Tuesday from Patrick to say he was fine and happy.
I am trying to understand all that goes on but if I use my laymans terms and misunderstand forgive me.

Donna did a full assessment on him and gave him 2 treatments this week. She said that he was in less pain than when she saw him in January - thanks to Dr Green! -and was happier being treated than before.

She said his sacrum was held down and thats what she is focusing on. I know she takes a holistic view so she will also be working on the rest of him. She said every treatment will be different working on what needs doing on that day. She said the bony overgrowth she though might have been there wasnt so not as bad as it could have been.

I asked how his feet were doing (unshod for about 4 months now) and she said his front left foot was slightly twisted with the frog being over onto the inside rather than central and she will get her trimmer to check them out more fully next time they are there. My farrier trimmed him a couple of weeks ago.

Somehow it seemed a more positive talk than we had last time and I am feeling a teeny bit more optimistic.
 
Todays news.

Apparently his depressed sacrum also effects his bladder - so they are trying to get him to eat Global Herbs Easipee - what a name!- but he doesnt like it!

Also confirmed that he needs 24/7 turnout for optimum wellbeing. I have been trying for months to find that here (especailly for 2 big horses) - impossible unless you just have a field and no facilities. Makes me miserable keeping calling new places and hoping to find somewhere.

Ah good luck with these treatments. Rollo is lovely. How about taking out an advert at the local feed merchants tack shops for grazing/ grass livery. I would also advise driving around and literally having the nerve to knock and ask very politely at private yards. You may get lucky at a farm or a private yard. At least at a private yard that could have some facilities like and arena and yard for grooming and vet and farriery visits. Many private owners welcome a mature livery who can help out on sick and holiday days or they may put the word out for yo or recommend somewhere. Ask hay suppliers too and the local farriers and vets. Put an ad up at the vets and in the farrier's van :)

Tomorrow I am going to see Rollo being ridden for the first time since Christmas.

Apparently he is still a bit sore over the SI area but now needs to progress to ridden work since thats the best way to get him moving properly. He has been long reined but now needs ridden work. His sacrum has lifted and his back looks more normal.

It wont be for long and I am sure it will be at his pace - very excitied and sure I will cry!

I have come to a sort of arrangement with the YO that he and my loan horse can go out for 20 hours a day. Until winter anyway so I do need to do my cold calling and post cards - just dont want to offend the current place!
